Now Brewing – senior manager, global responsibility! #tobeapartner

From the beginning, Starbucks set out to be a different kind of company. One that not only celebrated coffee and the rich tradition, but that also brought a feeling of connection. We are known for developing extraordinary leaders who share this passion and are guided by their service to others.

You will be at the heart of the Starbucks coffee business working closely with teams to deploy on farm and supply shed strategies and tools to help achieve our carbon and water reductions targets. You will harness your intimate knowledge of agronomy and nature-positive approaches to ensure we are innovating and working strategically at all times. You will demonstrate an in-depth understanding of the agricultural carbon domain, including carbon credit mechanisms, regulatory frameworks, and industry standards to provide the business with actionable insights. You are passionate about the agricultural carbon domain and possess the entrepreneurial drive to make a significant impact.

As a senior manager, global responsibility, you will…

  • Manage, coach, mentor, and drive culture for a direct team of up to five advisors that will provide technical expertise for their areas of focus.
  • Enable cross functional teams to design and implement interventions to tackle carbon emissions and water use on farms or in supply sheds, including nature positive approaches where relevant.
  • Exercise judgement and provide expert advice to internal teams on implementing a fit for purpose monitoring, reporting and verification (MRV) system.
  • Ensure timely and accurate internal and external reporting on carbon and water against all commitments and third-party score cards, in line with established SOPs, recommending improvements as need be.
  • Cultivate and manage partnerships in the carbon and water space as relevant to agricultural carbon impacts, keeping abreast of best practice and updated guidance from relevant sector organizations.
  • Collaborate closely with the wider sustainability team to consistently track, report on, and adjust carbon and water targets, as necessary.
  • Lead and coach a team of Farmer Support Center (FSC) staff, without direct line management and in collaboration with the FSC director; set goals for the team, design stretch workplans, develop organizational capability, and model best practices in partnership across teams.
  • Create an environment of high-performance for the team and promote leadership courage to enable risk-taking, continuous improvement, problem solving and innovative thinking.

We’d love to hear from people with:

  • 5-10 years leading social or environmental impact programs and projects and/or leading strategy program, projects and cross functional teams
  • 2 years managing highly effective teams, demonstrated mentorship, or managing cross functional teams
  • Proven track record and high proficiency in project management across various stages of project development and implementation (initiating, planning, execution, monitoring and completion).
  • Understanding of and ability to create impacts in response to relevant international frameworks, such as Science-based Targets for Climate and Nature, Paris Climate Agreement, Global Biodiversity Framework, OECD HRDD Guidelines etc.
  • Proven ability to influence and guide diverse teams toward achieving common objectives without direct authority, showcasing exceptional leadership and collaboration skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to act as a central coordinator, quickly identifying connections, efficiencies, and necessary action plans.
  • Excellent relationship building and cross functional working skill set.
  • Knowledge of pipeline development for impact investment and/or carbon finance is desirable.
  • 4 year college degree preferred

The actual base pay offered to the successful candidate will be based on multiple factors, including but not limited to job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, and internal equity.  At Starbucks, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at the high end of the range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent upon the facts and circumstances of each position and candidate.
