Functieomschrijving

Are you interested in studying climate change impacts? Are you good at model analysis and would you like to participate in a research project on global sustainability? Then come and join our team at PBL.

The world has become almost 1.5 degrees warmer than in pre-industrial times, and the impacts of climate change are becoming evident. With further warming expected in the future, impacts are expected to worsen. Addressing the risks of climate change within the next decade has become urgent. The IMAGE integrated assessment model at PBL forms an important tool to study climate change impacts and is used for many international assessments.

We are looking for a new colleague to assist in integrated analysis of climate impacts. This includes model improvement and data collection. You will also be involved in model management and provide programming support to other researchers in the team. The work on climate impacts includes the representation of the climate system in IMAGE (using the MAGICC model), the hydrological cycle and other impact areas. The results of these assessments will be documented in scientific papers ensuring the transparency of the scientific methods used. The IMAGE model consists of a set of models describing future energy and land use in relation to possible environmental consequences of human activities. This model is used to analyse the consequences of current trends and possible response strategies.

You will work in the IMAGE team, a dynamic group of approximately 25 individuals working on specific topics related to climate change and other environmental concerns. The team is a mix of junior and senior researchers and is situated within the Department Global Sustainability. Our department includes researchers working to bridge the gap between science and policy at the European and Global levels.
