General Notes

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled hydroclimate postdoctoral fellow to join our team. The successful candidate will have a strong background in atmospheric science, hydroclimate change, data analysis, and numerical modeling. The candidate will be based at UT Austin and be affiliated in the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences. The researcher will get an opportunity to actively collaborate with the Texas Water Development Board. Austin is a highly vibrant city and provides access to numerous activities beyond the research and academic experience through UT Austin. Under the supervision of Dr. Zong-Liang Yang, this research will develop a methodology to derive future projected runoff and reservoir evaporation for a select river basin in Texas.

Purpose

Responsibilities

  • Proficiency in analyzing climate data from CMIP6 or similar datasets.
  • Strong skills in managing large datasets, including climate projections and hydrological data.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as NCAR Command Language (NCL), Python, R, or MATLAB for data processing and analysis.

Required Qualifications

PhD in Atmospheric or Hydrological Sciences. Ph.D. must have been earned within the past three years.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD degree in Atmospheric Science, Meteorology, Climate Science, Hydrology or related field.
  • Proven experience with Earth system models (ESMs) and downscaling techniques.
  • Expertise in hydrological models, particularly those related to streamflow and reservoir evaporation.
  • Experience with bias correction techniques such as quantile mapping.
  • Experience in performing sensitivity analysis and uncertainty quantification in hydrological projections.
  • Demonstrated ability to document methodologies and findings in detailed technical reports.
  • Experience in preparing project deliverables and progress presentations.
  • Ability to communicate complex scientific concepts to diverse stakeholders, including water planners and environmental agencies.

Salary Range

$65,000

Working Conditions

  • May work around standard office conditions and in laboratories;
