WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHER
This position is a critical leader in Utah’s matrixed cross-functional team and will develop credible and compelling strategies to deliver transformative, systemic change to water use and management systems in Utah. The Utah Water Program Director establishes overall conservation priorities for the water program and, as part of the Utah Conservation Team, implements strategies using science and conservation planning tools, designing large-scale projects, and collaborating with key external partners in a challenging political context.
The Utah Water Program Director establishes the Conservancy as a major conservation partner within the area of water conservation and management in Utah; defines and implements related conservation priorities and long-term conservation strategies; builds strategic, scientific, and technical capacity in the field; and develops key partnerships with diverse public and private organizations to develop solutions related to water scarcity and water quality and to widely communicate solutions and best practices. They support development of innovative scientific methods, analyses, tools, and frameworks to address the natural system needs, and they engage local community support for local water conservation efforts. They negotiate complex and innovative solutions with government agencies, water managers and users, landowners, and other interested parties to conserve and protect natural waterways and waterbodies, with an emphasis on the Colorado River Basin and the Great Salt Lake watershed.
WHAT YOU’LL BRING
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
• BA/BS degree and 7 years’ experience in conservation practice or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience with Western water supply and water policy frameworks.
• Experience communicating professionally via written and spoken means in English.
• Experience presenting to government officials, executives, and others.
• Experience managing complex and multiple projects under deadlines, including managing finances and coordinating the work of other professionals and partners.
• Experience obtaining and managing public funding.
• Experience procuring and managing contracts.
• Supervisory experience, including motivating, leading, setting objectives and managing performance.
• Experience in partnership development with diverse interested parties, resource users, non-profit partners, community groups and/or government agencies.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Familiarity with Utah water policy and water management framework including Colorado River management.
• Familiarity with ambient water quality problems and solutions.
• Experience working with water managers and users such as tribal, municipal, and agricultural interests and/or water conservancy districts.
• Experience influencing, developing, and implementing conservation policies and plans.
• Experience acquiring interests in land and water.
• Experience negotiating.
• Multi-lingual and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated.
• Private fundraising experience, including identifying donor prospects and donor cultivation.
• Knowledge of current trends and practices in relevant discipline(s) and regions.
• Ability to develop practical applications of scientific concepts and technical innovations for conservation purposes.
• Politically savvy, understanding the range of implications involved in decisions and the importance of messaging in an appropriate way to leaders of all levels.

SALARY INFORMATION
The starting pay range for a candidate selected for this position is generally within the range of $82,720- $97,580 for annual base salary. This range only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA. Where a successful candidate’s actual pay will fall within this range will be based on a variety of factors, including, for example, the candidate’s location, qualifications, specific skills, and experience. Please note countries outside the USA would have a different pay range in the local currency based on the local labor market, and not tied to USA pay or ranges. Your geographic location will be confirmed during the recruitment.
