The NSW Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW) has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Ecohydrologist to join our Environmental Water Planning team to provide technical and modelling support to inform our delivery of large projects across the NSW Murray-Darling Basin.
The successful applicant will work collaboratively with staff across DCCEEW and other NSW government agencies to deliver improved river and wetland health outcomes. You will have the opportunity to build your skills in the fields of ecohydrology, spatial data analysis, hydrological and hydraulic modelling and data management while contributing to large scale projects of State significance. You will enjoy working as part of a multi-disciplinary team and be responsible for providing technical leadership to projects and junior staff.
Job Grade / Classification: Environment Officer Class 9 – Salary starting at $116,059 + super
Employment Type: Temporary Full-time (to 31 January with a strong possibility of extension to December 2026)
Location: Flexible within NSW, dependent on experience
About You
To be successful in this role, you must have:
- Relevant scientific or engineering qualifications and experience in leading ecohydrological projects.
- A sound understanding of hydrological modelling in the eWater Source platform
- Experience in developing code and coding workflows using R and/or python
- Experience in spatial analysis using GIS software, preferably in a coding environment
- Experience in hydraulic modelling using TUFLOW is highly desirable
- Experience writing technical reports and presenting work to project partners and stakeholders
- Experience working collaboratively within multi-disciplinary teams and organisations to deliver successful projects
