Salary Range: $85,813.18- $97,879.22 annually, which includes a 3.3% Temporary Market Adjustment*, plus $54.75 bi-weekly Isolation allowance for Fort Nelson; $37.64 bi-weekly isolation allowance for Smithers.

Job Summary

The Team

The Watershed and Security branch in British Columbia is responsible for leading strategic planning, policy development, legislation, and scientific research related to water and watershed management. Operating in a fast-paced and collaborative environment, the branch supports regional implementation across the Natural Resource Sector and health agencies, while adhering to Indigenous reconciliation principles. The work involves building partnerships with Indigenous groups, provincial and local governments, stakeholders, and other watershed organizations to address a wide range of issues and initiatives.

The Role

The Water Policy Advisor plays a crucial role in this framework by developing and implementing policies, strategies, and governance models for water and watershed management. This position also provides policy advice and training to guide the delivery of programs and legislation within the natural resource sector. The Advisor utilizes analytical and problem-solving skills to build strong relationships and teams, ensuring that BC maintains a secure water supply for future generations. The collaborative team environment offers an opportunity to create a lasting impact on water security, a vital resource for all residents.

Education:
• Post-graduate degree or higher in Natural Resources management, Environment, Sustainability, Public Administration, Public Policy, Law, Business Administration or related field; OR
• Under-graduate degree in the areas stated above PLUS 2 years of directly related experience. 

Experience:
• Experience providing expertise in the development of policy.  Preference may be given to applicants with this experience in the areas of water or natural resource management.
• Experience leading people.  Preference may be given to applicants with experience supervising staff or leading teams.   
• Experience researching, analyzing, and evaluating complex issues and information to assess the impact of a policy and/or strategic plan on an organization.  Preference may be given to applicants with this experience in the areas of water or natural resource management.
• Experience establishing, building, and maintaining collaborative working relationships with Indigenous groups, internal managers, internal staff and teams, external groups and/or other levels of government. 
• Experience producing complex and written documentation for senior decision-makers. 

Provisos/Willingness Statements:
• Occasional travel may be required.
• Successful candidate will be expected to report to a NRS government office point of assembly regularly, as deemed necessary by the employer.
• A valid full BC driver’s licence (minimum class 5), or an equivalent class driver’s licence from another province or jurisdiction is preferred.
