ABOUT THE ROLE

About the client:

We are excited to recruit for one of the nation’s leading conservation organizations, Ducks Unlimited Canada (DUC). Our client is a conservation organization focused on hydrology and civil engineering. We are looking for a Provincial Engineer for BC to join their team. We are looking for a Professional Engineer with knowledge of the dam safety review process in BC.

The organization offers 3 weeks’ vacation with additional paid personal and sick days, comprehensive compensation & benefits package as well as the option for a hybrid or remote work arrangement. Candidates can be located anywhere in the Province of BC, although Kamloops or Williams Lake are the preferred locations.

Responsibilities:

  • Leading provincial dam safety efforts, contributing to dam safety reviews and performing field work, including inspections. Contributing to Dam Emergency Plan and Operation Maintenance and Surveillance plan preparation.
  • Leading the design, contract management, and cost estimation for wetland conservation infrastructure, including earthworks and water conveyance structures.
  • Providing expert knowledge and leadership to the team in hydrotechnical and civil engineering, to assist with project proposals, planning, delivery and implementation, regulatory approvals and permitting.
  • Contributing to team resource management, long-range planning, and budgeting with the provincial asset management team.
  • Supervising a growing team of junior engineers and engineering technologists
  • Maintaining DUC’s Permit to Practice with EGBC as the appointed Responsible Person.

Qualifications:

  • Civil, Environmental, or Geological Engineering degree or equivalent
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) Designation with EGBC.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in hydrologic, hydraulic, water resources, geotechnical, or dam safety engineering, including experience with project design and construction.
  • Ability to conduct field work, including remote dam safety inspections by truck or ATV.
  • Strong planning, reporting and project management skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and time management skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and supervision skills.
  • Valid class 5 driver’s license.
  • Ability to work flexible hours and travel as required.
  • Knowledge of and experience with hydrology and design flow estimation methods, preferably in British Columbia.
  • Experience with Office 365, AutoDesk, HEC-RAS, HEC-SSP, HEC-HMS and other hydrologic/hydraulic modelling software, GIS, or GeoStudio.
  • Experience in the design of dams or earth berms (including water control structures), as well as dam safety, including Canadian Dam Association (CDA) Guidelines, and British Columbia Dam Safety Regulation, considered a strong asset.
  • Contract and construction management considered an asset.
  • The successful candidate will also have an affinity to the outdoors, conservation and the world of waterfowl.
