Trout Unlimited (TU) brings together diverse interests to care for and recover the rivers and streams on which we all depend. POSITION SUMMARY
This position is an exciting opportunity for a self-motivated, highly-capable person with a diverse skill set to advance TU’s conservation and planning efforts in Southeast Wyoming. The Southeast Wyoming Project Manager identifies and implements projects to improve watershed conditions, improve fish passage, rehabilitate or replace infrastructure to accommodate fish movement, restore stream and riparian habitat, and improve streamflows and water quality in the upper North Platte Basin in Wyoming.
This is a cost share position with the USFS with approximately 80% of time spent on projects located on or adjacent to USFS lands.
This work will require an individual who is action and solution-oriented, works well with diverse stakeholders and personalities, and can build a program from the ground-up. Candidates for this position will need to demonstrate strong project management skills and follow-through, community outreach experience, and experience related to river restoration, hydrology, aquatic ecology, working agriculture, and partnership-building.
The position also participates in youth education programs, primarily through TU’s Adopt a Trout Program and Trout in the Classroom with local school districts. The position is based in Laramie, WY.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work with the US Forest Service to prioritize and implement projects on the Medicine-Bow Routt National Forest, with an emphasis on the Middle Douglas Creek watershed and Mullen wildfire recovery efforts.
- Work closely with state and other federal agencies to implement projects, collect field data for project development and monitoring, and secure permits.
- Work with the Laramie Valley chapter (as well as the Curt Gowdy and Platte Valley chapters) of Trout Unlimited to coordinate project, fundraising, and volunteer efforts.
- Maintain and strengthen existing partnerships with landowners and nonprofit organizations in the upper North Platte Basin.
- Work with Trout Unlimited staff and volunteers on fundraising, including identifying potential funding sources, drafting grant proposals, and developing relationships with funders.
- Develop and implement curriculum with the Wyoming Council of Trout Unlimited for local youth education efforts.
- On-the-ground project oversight and monitoring.
- Office administration including grant reporting, invoicing and tracking project budgets.
- Manage an average annual budget of $500,000 – $2,000,000.
- Non-supervisory position.

Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Professional experience in fisheries, natural resource management and/or restoration/conservation project management.
- Demonstrated performance in grant writing and other fundraising activities.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with multiple and diverse partners in a highly collaborative and inclusive manner, even on contentious issues.
- Demonstrated performance in grant writing and other fundraising activities.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Experience with communications, outreach and volunteer engagement.
- Good organizational and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work independently while managing complex projects. The job requires the ability to prioritize workload, to be highly motivated and self-directed.
- Knowledge of the region and watersheds a plus.
- Ability and willingness to travel; valid driver’s license and own vehicle required.
- Passion for trout and salmon and the places they live.
