Introduction

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is hiring a Nonpoint Source Program Coordinator in the Division of External Services, which offers the opportunity to work at the intersection of agriculture and water quality.

This position may be headquartered in any DNR Service Center in WI, depending on space availability and the location of the selected candidate.

Remote work may be available for a portion of the work week, after the initial onboarding period.

Position Summary

This position serves as the statewide policy expert for the Nonpoint Source (NPS) Program and coordinates program outreach activities. 

Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Leading the development of the Nonpoint Source Program Management Plan with US EPA
  • Coordinating statewide implementation of the plan with DNR staff, managers, and program partners.
  • Functioning as the department’s coordinator for the federal, section 319 nonpoint source program grant
  • Developing annual work plans
  • Reporting on pollution abatement activities
  • Managing subcontracts
  • Serving as the state liaison to US EPA.

Salary Information

Starting pay for this position is between $36.00 to $42.00 per hour (or $74,880 to $87,360 annually), in addition to excellent benefits.

This position is not represented by a collective bargaining unit. Pay on appointment will follow the provisions of the State of Wisconsin Compensation Plan.

This position is included in the classification Water Resources Management Specialist-Advanced within pay schedule/range 15-03. A 12-month probationary period may be required.

Travel: Occasional in-state travel for training or meetings may be required. Out-of-state travel for training or conferences may occur with approval on a case-by-case basis.

Qualifications

Required qualifications include the following:

  • Education or comparable work experience in the field of environmental science, natural resources management, water management, soil science or similar field

Preferred qualifications include experience with any of the following criteria:

  • Applying policies and procedures related to environmental management
  • Leading a team to accomplish a goal (could be formal or informal team leadership, project management, etc.)
  • Collaborating across organizations or groups from a wide variety of backgrounds to accomplish a goal (e.g., internal partners, regulated parties, counterpart state & federal agencies, tribal governments, legislators, trade associations, NGO’s and advocacy groups, etc.)
  • Developing or revising policies or WI Administrative Codes related to natural resources or agriculture
  • Administering or implementing state or federal grants
