The Opportunity 

Abt Global seeks a qualified Program Coordinator – Water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) for the Feed the Future Bangladesh Nutrition Activity. This is a full-time position based in Dhaka and reporting to the WASH Technical Lead.  

 Feed the Future Bangladesh Nutrition Activity is funded by USAID and contributes to improvements in nutrition outcomes of household members, with an emphasis on children under the age of five, pregnant and lactating women, and adolescents (girls and boys) in the country’s Feed the Future (FTF) zone of influence (ZOI) and the Zone of Resilience (ZOR). Three results underwrite this goal: 1) consumption of nutritious, diverse, safe, and balanced diets by households; 2) social and economic empowerment of women and social empowerment of adolescents; and 3) adoption of improved water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) practices. We integrate a strong focus on gender equality and social inclusion (GESI) across all three of these result areas. We apply a combination of Market Systems Development (MSD) and Social Behavior Change (SBC) approaches to achieve our goals. 

 The WASH Program Coordinator will support the development and execution of WASH interventions implemented by the Activity’s consortium partners, as well as public and private sector partners. Moreover, s/he will assist in ensuring the timely completion of workplan activities, and attaining project milestones and deliverables. The WASH Program Coordinator will work closely with the Activity’s Deputy Chief of Party (DCOP) and technical leads in other result areas for an integrated approach to promoting WASH behaviors. 

Core Responsibilities 

Contribute to the analysis of WASH market constraints and root causes of market failure; identify opportunities for systemic change within the water, sanitation, and hygiene sectors and for achieving sustainable program outcomes and impacts. 

Liaise with national, sub-national public, and private sector market actors, and NGOs involved in the WASH sector. Contribute to forging partnerships for jointly working towards sustainable water, sanitation, and hygiene goals.  

Support technical design and delivery of WASH strategy to increase access to safe drinking water, improved sanitation, and hygiene solutions.  

Develop technically accurate, high-quality approaches, modules, and tools aimed at stimulating WASH behavior change among beneficiaries.  

Contribute to development of  annual workplan for Result 3: Increased Adoption of Improved Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene practices.   

Assist Technical Lead in managing WASH-focused sub-awardees, grantees, and partners; provide strategic guidance, and in overseeing the implementation of WASH interventions. 

Conduct routine monitoring and field visits to ensure quality of implementation and gather market insights. 

Contribute to the preparation of quarterly and annual reports.  

Collaborate with Communications and MEL for developing high quality technical and intervention briefs and case studies. 

What We Value 

Relevant post graduate qualification preferably in business, development studies, or WASH  

At least 5 years of experience in applying MSD approaches in the WASH sector. 

Well established networks with key public and private sector stakeholders in WASH.  

Prior experience working on donor-funded projects, preferably with USAID.  

Ability to remain organized and focused on long-term vision and strategy. 

Confidence and ability to coordinate technical staff, foster teamwork, and ensure high standards of excellence. 

Excellent English language proficiency, including report writing skills.
