Project description

The overall objective of this project is to provide intensive support to the Georgian government through GA (Georgian Amelioration) change-management team in the rollout of the organizational reform actions.
Therefore, this project aims to to: (a) improve irrigation, and drainage services, and agricultural production in project areas, and (b) strengthen national irrigation and land management institutional capacity for climate resilient planning. 
In partnership with World Bank, Georgia, government continues to make major investments in irrigation modernization and a quantum leap in institutional development is needed to achieve acceptable service delivery and motivate the recovery of operational costs from farmers.
The primary project beneficiaries comprise individual farmers, fish farms, hydropower plants, technical water user enterprises across five-targeted irrigation schemes, and one drainage massif, and related regions. Overall, the rural population will benefit from enhanced services provided by land management, irrigation services, and agricultural support. In the public sector, the project will support institutional strengthening of public agencies.

Job description

The proposed Water Resources and Irrigation Engineer will oversee and contribute to the design, operation, and maintenance of irrigation systems, ensuring efficiency and sustainability. He/she will implement modernization initiatives using digital asset management, measuring, and monitoring tools. He/she will provide expert technical guidance during the irrigation reform process, diagnosing issues and proposing effective solutions.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree in civil engineering, water resources engineering, or a related technical field
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in irrigation system design, operation, and maintenance
  • Experience in use of modernization of irrigation infrastructure, including digital asset management, measuring and monitoring tools.
  • Experience in providing the technical guidance during the reform process.
  • Strong oral and written English language skills
