Local recruitment: Relationships Associate

Water Hub

United States 🇺🇸

Home-based/Remote

POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT:

  • Title: Relationships Associate
  • Location: Remote
  • Temporary, two-year staff position with further employment depending on additional funding

About the Water Hub
The Water Hub is a water communications organization that uses story-based strategies to advance water justice and resilience across the United States. We provide pro bono communications support to advocates and experts, from content creation to media and opinion research, training and coaching. We work to make water communications more accessible and activism more effective, so the people most impacted by water challenges and inequities have greater power to set the solutions.

At a time when so many stories center on conflict, the Water Hub works to create new narratives of progress and possibility, spotlighting the water solutions taking root from urban neighborhoods to forests and farmland. We also work to broaden the conversation, uplifting the voices and stories of frontline communities, Tribes, and other underrepresented groups. The Water Hub team splits its time between providing on-call support to partner organizations and pursuing longer-term proactive projects and campaigns. While we work with a range of partners, we focus on serving frontline groups.

The Water Hub is committed to a diverse and inclusive workplace and considers qualified applicants for employment without regard to age, sex, ethnicity, religion, disability, sexual orientation or gender identity, military/veteran status, or any other basis prohibited by applicable law. We strongly encourage candidates of all backgrounds, identities, and experiences to apply, especially people from communities that have been historically underrepresented in environmental, water and climate sectors.

The role

We are seeking a talented and dynamic person to join our team as a Relationships Associate for the Color of Water initiative, which has evolved into a community where members connect to share experiences and skills. Our vision is to continue building out the program in ways that are responsive to members’ interests. This role will include staying up to date with the work of Color of Water members, elevating their voices through social media and other channels, and building their voice by providing hands-on communications support, training sessions, and assisting with writing and media outreach.

The Associate will also pitch in on a variety of communications efforts, ranging from national and regional campaigns to creative projects. This includes supporting Water Hub partners and collaborating with coalitions and networks working on water equity and climate justice. The team shares responsibilities for network-building efforts like our newsletter, social media presence, and workshops. The Relationships Associate will report directly to the Water Hub’s Senior Relationships Manager, José Aranda to expand our capacity to support Color of Water members.

This is a temporary, two-year staff position with further employment depending on additional funding. This new hire will be part of a highly collaborative seven-person team. The ideal candidate will share a passion for environmental justice, relationship-building, storytelling and community management. Strong connections with the water, environmental justice, or health movements already is a plus, though we invite people from other issue areas who bring valuable perspectives. We believe in leaning into people’s strengths to co-create our work plans, and there are ample opportunities for professional development and advancement.
