Job Duties

The Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is seeking a qualified candidate who will be responsible for ensuring that the data used by the Agency for the purpose of making water quality assessments and sound water management decisions is valid, accurate, comparable, technically sound, and of high quality through development and revision of Agency’s Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) program plan, QA/QC project plans, and the Agency’s Standard Operation Procedure (SOP) for the ambient water quality monitoring program. The position also develops monitoring QA/QC training programs as needed, coordinates QA audits, evaluates the monitoring program’s compliance with Federal regulations, develops new scientific procedures in support of the ambient water quality monitoring program and provides QA assistance to Agency monitoring personnel. The position will assist with selecting and procuring field water monitoring equipment.

Minimum Qualifications

• Knowledge and understanding of quality assurance methods and quality control activities as they apply to water quality monitoring and environmental data.
• Knowledge of chemical, physical and biological parameters used to evaluate water quality and ecological integrity.
• Knowledge and experience with professional water quality monitoring programs; and with volunteer water quality programs.
• Experience with environmental statistics, environmental data management, and database management.
• Experience with laboratory analysis of environmental samples.
• Strong technical writing, oral communication, and training skills.
• Knowledge of state procurement policies and procedures.

Additional Considerations

• Education, experience or training in environmental sciences and policy, aquatic ecology, biology, natural sciences, environmental engineering or related field which provides an advanced understanding of the knowledge, skills and competencies for the position.
