 The Department is recruiting a Hydrologic Geospatial Data Scientist. The successful applicant will have experience with geospatial data science and will support the Water Resources Division as an applied hydrologic data scientist. Primary duties will include contributing to the hydrologic modeling and data analysis efforts, and to state-wide water use research. Working Conditions: The position is based in Helena, Montana and approximately 80-90% of the work occurs in a normal office setting. of the work occurs in a normal office setting. Travel for field work, meetings, and trainings is required.

Education Requirement

  • A Master’s degree in Computer Science, Geography, Geographic Information Systems, Hydrology, Earth Science, Geology, Civil Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, or Water Resources, is required.
  • Minimum of one year of pertinent, progressively responsible job-related experience in hydrology.
  • Education and experience equivalent and comparable to that specified above may meet job requirements and would be considered on an individual basis.

Preferred Knowledge and Skills:

  • Expertise in the principles, theories, and methods of geospatial data management, modeling, and statistics.
  • Demonstrated experience with application programming languages (e.g., Python, R, SQL, JavaScript).
  • Experience with hydrologic, groundwater and/or environmental data.
  • Knowledge of methods for conducting hydrologic investigations, including techniques and methods for analyzing data, developing hydrologic models, and reporting findings.
  • Knowledge of data management, GIS software (ArcGIS or QGIS), spatial data analysis and mapping principles.
  • Demonstrated experience with MODFLOW and associated variants such as GSFLOW and/or knowledge of methods associated with numerical groundwater modeling.

Salary: $ 72,987.20 –   Yearly
