ADWR is seeking a Hydrogeologist for the Recharge & Recovery Section
This position requires expert knowledge in the fields of Groundwater Modeling, Recharge and Hydrology in order to make technical evaluations and provide guidance to internal and external Recharge Program clients as it pertains to groundwater flow models and artificial groundwater recharge.
This position may offer the ability to work remotely, within Arizona, based upon the department’s business needs and continual meeting of expected performance measures.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of:
- Construction and use of numerical groundwater flow models
- Standard and innovative techniques of solving a variety of groundwater problems including numerical and statistical analysis, database use, GIS, and a general overall skill using computers
- Groundwater Code, Department rules and Statutes, and Department policies pertaining to the Recharge Program statutes and the application of those requirements as it pertains to numerical groundwater flow models
- Hydrologic principles including Arizona hydrology
- The occurrence, behavior, and nature of groundwater resources combined with skill in the collection, analysis, and interpretation of hydrologic and geologic data
Skills in:
- Strong written communication skills: documenting groundwater flow model studies, results, and analyses
- Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills: presenting technical analyses and results to Program applicants and staff, agency staff, and public forums
- MODFLOW GUIs such as GMS, Visual MODFLOW, or Groundwater Vistas
- Basic programming (Python, MATLAB, C++, Visual Basic, or similar)
- GIS applications such as ArcGIS Pro
Ability to:
- Conduct work product reviews and serve as leader on various groundwater modeling and other hydrology projects
- Analyze groundwater problems, with standard and innovative techniques
- Effectively communicate highly technical information, both verbally and in writing, to a wide variety of audiences
- Work collaboratively as well as independently
- Effectively manage multiple simultaneous projects and establish priorities in order to meet Program and team deadlines

Requirements:
andidate must have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in hydrology, civil engineering, geology, watershed management, Physical science or a related field.
Hydrogeologist 3: Degree and five (5) years of hydrologic experience. Or a Master’s degree and three (3) years of experience or Ph.D and one (1) year of experience.
Hydrogeologist Associate: Degree and eight (8) years of hydrologic experience. Or a Master’s degree and six (6) years of experience or Ph.D and four (4) years of experience.
