Join CAWST in a dynamic role where your passion and creativity drive the design, facilitation, and evaluation of online, blended, and face-to-face learning materials. As a vital team member, you’ll coach and mentor others in creating and using compelling capacity development resources. This position offers a diverse scope, allowing you to explore water, sanitation, hygiene, behaviour change, and instructional design subjects.
Location: CAWST is based in Calgary, Alberta.
- This position requires you to be located in Calgary.
- CAWST staff work Monday to Wednesday in the office, and Thursday and Friday are flexible to work remotely unless otherwise required in the office.
Position Type: Full-time, Permanent
Travel: This position may be required to travel internationally (up to 30%).
Key Responsibilities
Build the learning and development capacity of our staff, partners, and clients
- Integrate competency frameworks into standard practices in our capacity development services.
- Mentor staff and partners to design and deliver virtual and face-to-face training.
- Mentor staff and partners to adapt and customize content for a specific context.
- Work with local partner organizations to build their skills and capabilities, enabling them to replicate CAWST’s capacity-building services for client organizations.
- Build relationships to identify capacity development needs and align programs with goals.
Manage the instructional design of new resources and update and adapt existing resources
- Lead the planning, design, and execution of multiple projects concurrently.
- Collaborate with subject matter experts to assess learner needs, establish learning objectives, curate content, and craft training strategies and materials that spark behaviour change.
- Master fundamental CAWST subjects related to water, sanitation and hygiene.
- Determine each initiative’s optimal blend of instructor-led, hands-on, and web-based learning solutions.
- Manage all phases of documentation processes, including planning, research, writing, reviewing, editing and publishing across various formats.
- Develop diverse learning aids, such as presentations, graphics, diagrams, videos and interactive e-learning.
- Explore and propose innovative learning tools and technologies for cutting-edge design solutions.
- Use TalentLMS, Articulate, social media platforms (such as WhatsApp), and other technologies and approaches to develop and deliver engaging resources accessible to diverse internet connectivity levels.
- Adapt and tailor products to the cultural and educational contexts of a broad range of adult learners.
Facilitate training
- Prepare and deliver training workshops, online courses, learning exchanges and webinars.
- Adapt CAWST workshops and resources to the context and needs of clients
- Facilitate strategic planning and professional development sessions.
- Identify opportunities and develop training, networking, and client support initiatives related to learning and development.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Degree in instructional design, education, behavioural sciences, or other relevant disciplines (equivalent work experience will also be considered). An additional degree in engineering, science, public health or communications is advantageous
- Professional fluency in English is required; proficiency in an additional language (Arabic, Spanish, or French) is preferred
- Experience working or travelling in international development or humanitarian contexts
- Experience developing e-learning solutions using e-learning authoring tools and learning management systems
- Experience in water, sanitation and hygiene projects is considered an asset
Skills and Abilities
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including translating complex and technical subjects into engaging and understandable content
- Strong facilitation and presentation skills
- Ability to coach and mentor in-person and remotely
- Strong critical thinking skills: identify diverse solutions for complex issues and guide groups toward strategic decision-making and fostering consensus.
- Ability to openly and honestly evaluate actions, decisions, and outcomes, acknowledge limitations, analyze past mistakes, and leverage them for improved future performance.
- Professional and diplomatic; excels both independently and collaboratively within and across teams.
- Ability to quickly establish credibility with diverse stakeholders
- Able to manage cross-cultural and cross-lingual relationships and situations
- Graphic design and video editing skills are considered an asset
- Ability to follow processes and manage multiple project deliverables at once
