The California Water Efficiency Partnership seeks a Program Director to join its staff and help achieve its mission to maximize urban water efficiency in California. We are a small team with an outsized impact located in downtown Sacramento.

What the job entails:
We are seeking a leader to join our downtown Sacramento-based team as our Program Director, and we are ready to hire immediately. Remote applicants will also be considered. This position will report directly to CalWEP’s Co-Executive Directors and work closely with our entire team to complete the following duties:
Drive the implementation of the Making Water Conservation a Way of Life Regulation:
- Collaborate with diverse stakeholder groups, including water utilities, environmental advocates, industry representatives, and state agencies.
- Design and develop tools, research, and resources to help suppliers implement the regulation.
- Create new resources for CalWEP membership, including drafting FAQs, implementation guides, webinars, and event sessions.
- Provide technical support for the regulation’s implementation.
- Develop grant proposals, RFPs, and contracts, both independently and collaboratively.
- Lead and conduct research projects, including data collection, analysis, and reporting.
- Respond to technical data and information requests from committee members and staff.
- Engage with Department of Water Resources, State Water Resources Control Board, and other state and federal agencies as needed.
Lead CalWEP’s programmatic priorities, including:
- Oversee the Sustainable Landscape Market Transformation portfolio.
- Develop the Leak Detection and Repair Training Program.
- Manage CalWEP’s Program Committee, which includes over 75 members and task forces on various water efficiency topics including commercial, industrial, and institutional best management practices, Advanced Meter Infrastructure (AMI), sustainable landscapes, and more.
- Deliver presentations on water efficiency topics both in-person and virtually.
- Design meeting, conference, and workshop agendas; coordinate with presenters; and develop materials.
- Identify and submit grant proposals to support and expand CalWEP’s work.
- Manage relevant CalWEP grants and contracts, including record-keeping, reporting, and managing subcontractors.
Engage with our growing and diverse statewide membership, including:
- Travel to CalWEP events across the state.
- Attend regional water efficiency meetings and present to water agency boards as requested.
- Provide support to members on various water efficiency topics.
- Represent CalWEP at partner events.

Your Experience and Qualifications:
A strong candidate will possess the following attributes:
- Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred.
- 10+ years of experience in water conservation, water/environmental policy, or water resource management.
- Excellent research and writing skills, with the ability to present complex information concisely.
- Ability to work independently and self-motivated.
- Thrive in a deadline-driven environment.
- Strong project and time management skills, flexibility, creativity, and organizational abilities.
- High levels of accountability for self and others.
- Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel and PowerPoint.
- Experience with WordPress, Dropbox, Basecamp, Mailchimp, and Salesforce preferred.
