The opportunity to develop personal research interests in a young, dynamic team awaits you. The current activity of the Environmental Psychology Group (founded in 2020) focuses on risk perception, attitudes, motivation and behavior change and the social processes surrounding them, as well as nature connectedness, regenerative environments and environment and health in the broadest sense. The group’s topics include plastic and chemical pollution, microplastics, electromagnetic fields (5G), biodiversity, nature in urban spaces, benefits of water environments and more. Your personal sphere of play:

Your future position is at the Environmental Psychology Group, Department of Cognition, Emotion and Methods in Psychology, in the Faculty of Psychology at the University of Vienna, Austria (https://env-psy.univie.ac.at/). The group engages mainly in quantitative research (from cross-sectional to experimental) and applied research in the areas of risk perception, attitudes, motivation and behaviour change and the social processes that surround them as well as on nature connectedness, restorative environments and environment and health in the broadest sense.

We are looking for a committed employee to fill the position of University Assistant (“post doc”), full-time (40 hours per week), for the period September 1, 2024 (negotiable) to August 31, 2027 (option to renew for another three years)!

Your future tasks:

Active participation in research, teaching & administration, which means:

  • You investigate environmental topics from a psychological perspective.
  • You apply strong quantitative analytical and methodological skills.
  • You develop new theoretical and / or methodological perspectives on environmental topics.
  • You discuss ongoing funded projects with colleagues in the group and develop new funding proposals.
  • You publish internationally and disseminate research findings.
  • You develop and hold teaching courses independently and/or with others up to 4 hours / week.
  • You supervise students, interns as necessary.

This is part of your personality: 

  • PhD in Psychology or similar relevant qualification.
  • Excellent communication and academic writing skills (must: English, desirable: German).
  • MS Office user level.
  • Advanced statistical and analytical skills (e.g. R, SPSS).
  • Strong team working skills.
  • A passion for both theory and application.
  • A track record of publications and funding proposals commensurate with your stage of career.
  • Evidence of leadership commensurate to stage of career.
  • Autonomous and proactive working style.
  • An understanding of and openness to the international and interdisciplinary contexts environmental psychology operates in.
  • Experience in teaching and/or supervision.
