The Department of Regional Development, Manufacturing and Water (DRMDW) drives growth for Queensland by managing sustainable water resources, leading innovation in manufacturing, and developing our regions. From our offices in Brisbane and a network of regional offices and manufacturing hubs, more than 700 DRDMW staff work to create a Queensland where communities, businesses and water resources are sustainable and resilient.

The Role

As an integral member of the Water Planning & Science team in the development of Water Plans and other associated regulatory instruments. You will gather evidence from technical information and stakeholder engagement on water management issues. Use this evidence to develop policy options and identify possible changes to regulatory frameworks to ensure Queensland’s water resources are managed to optimise sustainable development outcomes.

As part of our workforce strategy of putting people in the regions the preferred role location is in scenic Mackay or Rockhampton.

Key Responsibilities:

•   Assist with the development of water plans, supporting instruments and otherwater planning documents in line with Queensland Water Act 2000 requirements.

•    Undertake desktop research, data collection, interpretation, and analysis to inform the assessment of a range of water management and policy issues
•   Consult with internal and external stakeholders including farmers, environmentalstakeholders, First Nations people, technical experts government departments and community organisations.
•   Assist with preparation of policy papers, briefing notes, Cabinet submissions andother correspondence as required.
•   Contribute to analysis and interpretation of existing National and State Government strategies, policies and legislation in relation to efficient and sustainable management of Queensland’s water resources.

About You

•   Experience and knowledge in water resource management and water planning.
•   Well-developed problem solving and stakeholder engagement skills.
•   Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
•   There are no mandatory requirements for this role, however driver’s licencewould be highly regarded.
•   Travel away from the centre will be required outside of normal office hours.
