Global Water Partnership Central and Eastern Europe (GWP CEE) is excited to announce a new job opportunity for a Regional Coordinator. This position serves as the director of the GWP CEE Regional Secretariat.
Location: Bratislava, Slovakia, with the possibility for hybrid work
Duration: For an initial period of one year, with a possibility of extension
Working hours: Full time , 40h per week

Salary range: 3500-4000 EUR (depends on working experience and qualification)
BACKGROUND
The Global Water Partnership (GWP) is a global action network of partners supporting countries and regions in the sustainable development and integrated management of water and related resources. The GWP network is supported by a global secretariat (intergovermental Global Water Partnership Organisation, Stockholm, Sweden), 13 Regional Water Partnerships, and 76 Country Water Partnerships.
GWP Central and Eastern Europe (GWP CEE) is an accredited Regional Water Partnership managing network of partners in the CEE Region, including governmental, non-governmental, research, and private sector institutions. GWP CEE develop activities fulfilling the GWP Strategy, the regional water partenrship workplan, and through projects, strategic cooperation, network empowerment, and resource mobilisation supports the Country Water Partnerships (CWP) established in 11 countries of the region (Bulgaria, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia and Ukraine). Through its work, GWP CEE supports countries and partners in the region in the sustainable integrated management of water resources under the climate change, develops transboundary cooperation, and cooperates with other regions of GWP to create a regional to global impact on enhancing water security.
GWP CEE operates as a civic association registered in Slovakia. It is governed by a Regional Council led by a Regional Chair and comprised of the Chairs of the CWPs. The council sets strategic orientations for the partnership. The coordination of the network and operations are managed by a Regional Secretariat, headed by the Regional Coordinator. The Regional Secretariat has a staff size between five to eight (depends on running projects). The office is located at the Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute in Bratislava, Slovakia, and part of the team is working remotely. Working language is English.
GWP CEE provides neutral platform for multi-stakeholder engagement into Integrated water resource management and climate change adaptation, for developing strategic regional and transboundary partnerships and cooperations. In addition, building capacities and supporting innovation and best practice transfer in drought and multi-hazard management, nature-based solutions, restoring rivers and floodplains and sustainable sanitation are in the centre of the partnership, as well as engaging youth and civil society. SCOPE OF THE POSITION
The Regional Coordinator (RC) acts as a director of the GWP CEE Regional Secretariat. She/he operationally manages the Secretariat and activities of GWP CEE network under the overall guidance of the GWP CEE Regional Council and its Chair. RC works according to the GWP strategy, the 3-year work programme, and annual workplan and budget adopted by the Regional Council. RC provides strategic leadership for the GWP CEE development under the ongoing transition of the CEE region. They reports to the Regional Council. RC responds to GWPO for effective regional planning and implementation according to GWP global strategy and guarantee the good financial management of GWP CEE.
The position is based in Bratislava, Slovakia, with frequent travel and a possibility for hybrid work (conditional on spending a number of days per month in the office)
SPECIFIC DUTIES
Strategy Development and Implementation
- Lead the development, implementation, financial and administrative management, progress monitoring, and reporting of GWP CEE triennial work program and GWP CEE annual work plan. Regional Coordinator does so in alignment with the strategic directions set by the Regional Council and under the oversight of the Council.
- Prepare GWP CEE Work Programmes, work plans, and budgets, which shall be reviewed and approved by the Council, by GWPO, and by GWP’s global steering committee.
- Lead, organise and facilitate the implementation of the work plan and ensure that it progresses.
- Maintain and strengthen effective relationships with strategic partners of GWP CEE, the funding partners, and with CWPs.
- Coordinate fundraising at regional and national levels in cooperation with the Chair and the Council members.
- Contribute to preparation regional and Global strategy for 2026-2030 period and transition in governance reform Developes synergies within the GWP network.
- Develop activities supporting engagement of partners in GWP network, capacity building and network empowerment.
Management
- Lead and manage the Regional Secretariat and e the GWP CEE network
- Day to day management, administration and monitoring operationally and financially l GWP CEE activities, prepares budget, workplans, and reporting to donnors. .
- Manage the staff of the GWP CEE Secretariat, and ensure efficiency of the secretariat operations
- Act as the focal point and statutory of the civic association
Regional Governance
- Report to the Chair and Regional Council on the status of implementation of GWP-CEE activities through narrative and financial reports
- Prepare and facilitate Regional Council meetings and meetings of the partners at the request of the Chair, and organize and prepare the necessary documents for all governance meetings
- Collaborate with the Chair and Council to ensure compliance with GWP accreditation requirements for CWPs and RWPs, as well as with the GWP CEE Statutes
- Liaise and consult with the Chair on matters related to fundraising and implementation of the Council decisions
- Any other responsibilities assigned by the Council
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS
The candidate for the position should have the following qualifications and abilities:
Educational background:
- Advanced degree in any of the following fields: water diplomacy and governance, water management, organisation management, environmental science, sustainble econmics, social sciences with focus on sustainable development , or any other equivalent background
Work experience:
- At least 10 years of relevant work experience, including experience in coordinating international partnerships, consortia or projects
- At least 3 years’ proven track record in strategic organisational development and transformation, including experience with resource mobilisation, financial management,
- Leadership experience in the field of water resources management related areas, and experiences in CEE are an asset
- Demonstrated ability to develop strategic approaches, building and effectively managing, strategic partnerships, and working in multi-stakeholder and transdiciplinary environment
- Demonstrated experience in building and advancing relationship with donnor organisations
- Demonstrated experience in resource mobilisation, project implementation and monitoring/ evaluation of projects
Other skills:
- Knowledge of the regional context for water resources management and of major actors involved in CEE region.
- Human resource management and leadership skills, excellent organizational and analytical skills, prioritization, team management skills
- Ability to work and deliver under tight schedules with high quality.
- Flexible, diplomatic, profesional, friendly and cooperative personality with a sensitive approach to national and regional political environments
- Excellent communication skills with diverse audiences and ability to facilitate multi-stakeholder platforms and processes.
- Enthusiasm, dedication, entrepreneurial spirit, “can-do” attitude
- Fluency in English language, with good writing skills, knowledge of other CEE language is of advantage.
- Good computer and internet skills, including facilitation of virtual meetings, and proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, power point, etc.)
