Position Overview

Global Environmental Consulting (GEC) seeks an individual with a background in environmental planning, data science, environmental policy, drinking water resources, the Safe Drinking Water Act, and the State or Federal Safe Drinking Water Information System (SDWIS/State or SDWIS/Fed).

GEC supports contracts with government clients in the areas of drinking water, water quality, and environmental science. GEC also develops and implements software solutions to help clients manage and implement the SDWA regulations. The position requires direct contact with our clients to perform both remote and onsite project work. Example projects may include business requirements analysis; data mapping and migration to help clients transition between data management systems; analysis of drinking water sample analytical results; summary of requirements for implementation of drinking water regulations; development of standard operating procedures; support and training for clients using GEC’s software; training for SDWA and SDWIS implementation in states; and support for laboratories to implement electronic reporting of analytical results using the Compliance Monitoring Data Portal.

The successful candidate will have a record of professional excellence and a clearly demonstrated work ethic. The candidate will be detail-oriented, able to work collaboratively or independently, and should be comfortable working on multiple ongoing tasks. The candidate should also possess exceptional analytical, and oral and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Support Senior Subject Matter Experts, Project Managers, and GEC software Product Owners in developing training materials, agendas, standard operating procedures, and presentations; conducting training; answering questions through the GEC help desk; assisting with data mapping, transformation, and migration; and gathering requirements for client-specific projects
  • Provide on-site or remote SDWIS, SDWA, and or GEC application implementation and support
  • Prepare, analyze, and interpret data for environmental and water resources projects
  • Extract and organize data from a variety of sources, including spreadsheets, databases, APIs, or web services
  • Map, transform, and migrate data from legacy information systems
  • Support Project Managers by assisting with logistics (ex. help set up conference calls or trainings), and preparing or reviewing project progress reports
  • Assist with database administration including routine maintenance, troubleshooting, tuning, backup, etc.

Required Qualifications

  • Knowledge of the Safe Drinking Water Act, drinking water contaminants, and compliance determination or professional experience with EPA drinking water programs
  • Knowledge of EPA applications that support the SDWA including SDWIS/State
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, and communication skills (written and oral)
  • Strong organizational abilities
  • Ability to quickly switch between tasks and reprioritize work based on client needs
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical staff and clients
  • Ability to help clients translate business needs into business requirements
  • Classwork or professional experience with large environmental data sets such as sample analytical results, compliance monitoring data, water system infrastructure data, and SDWA compliance data
  • Knowledge of one or more database applications (Microsoft Access, Oracle, SQL Server, etc.), basic SQL, and Visual Basic for Applications
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel
  • Three or more years’ work experience with SDWIS/State, and the SDWA
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel, SharePoint, and Teams
  • BS/BA in relevant field

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of EPA’s Central Data Exchange, Shared CROMERR Services, and CMDP
  • Knowledge of SDWIS/Fed and the Enforcement Targeting Tool are helpful, but not required
  • Apache Tomcat Administration skills are helpful but not required
  • Oracle or SQL Server Database Administration skills are helpful but not required
  • Experience in professional/consulting business environment or master’s degree helpful but not required

Additional Information

  • Training on GEC applications will be provided
  • This position may be in corporate offices in Scottsdale, AZ, or remote. Approximately 20% domestic travel may be required.
