The Role
Undertake a range of science projects focussed on freshwater aquatic ecosystems across the Northern region of Queensland. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide results and data to support future water management decisions to sustainably manage water resources across the State. An exciting mix of duties including field-based activities, desktop assessment,
laboratory work and report writing. These activities will ultimately inform water management decisions and water planning to sustainably manage water resources across the state.

The role can be based in scenic Cairns, Mareeba, Townsville, Ayr, Mackay preferred, with all locations across Queensland considered.
Key Accountabilities:
• Assist in the design and delivery of projects aimed at filling knowledge gaps and data requirements to support water planning and management decisions.
• Provide advice and input to water planning and work with groups involved in the implementation of the Water Planning Science Plan.
• Manage and conduct multiple projects across surface water and groundwater ecosystems.
• Undertake a variety of aquatic ecosystem monitoring programs.
• Maintain data in corporate databases to ensure data integrity.
• Undertake data analysis and provide targeted reporting on project results to water managers and other stakeholders.
• Communicate outcomes of projects and findings effectively to water managers and other stakeholders.
About You
• You will require a Bachelor Degree in Agricultural or Environmental Science, Biology, Applied Science or Natural Resource Management
• Demonstrated previous experience in monitoring freshwater ecosystems is highly desirable.
• Knowledge of freshwater fish ecology, turtle ecology, groundwater dependent ecosystems or another freshwater ecology specialisation is highly desirable.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Hold a current “C” class manual driver’s licence or equivalent.
• Out-of-hours and weekend work may be required in remote areas.
