Location: Muzaffarpur (2) Darbhanga (1) and Sitamarhi (1)
Position Purpose:
WADS Foundation is going to implement a project on “Promoting and Strengthening Sanitation Markets in Bihar” in Bihar supported by an international development organization. The district and the block that has been identified are – Darbhanga (Keoti), Muzaffarpur (Sakra & Kudhni) and Sitamarhi (Runnisaidpur). The position will be based at Muzaffarpur district of Bihar along with movement to project districts/blocks as per requirement. She/he will manage the project activities and coordinate with the block/district officials, SHG members, PRIs for realization of the project outcomes envisaged.
The project “Promoting and Strengthening Sanitation Markets in Bihar” in its second phase of implementation will actively work in three districts of Bihar with specific support to Toilet Clinics in four blocks of these districts. The entire implementation strategy will be to strengthen the government and local institutions capacity (PRIs and Jeevika) and their interventions in the field, so the maximum people reap the benefits of it. “Toilet Clinic” is a one stop shop at the block level where people can get advisory services along with various materials and masons required for addressing their repair and retrofitting needs. These Toilet Clinics will be like Information Kiosks at the Block Offices, from where all the materials like cement, sand, pans, pipes, bricks, doors, etc. can be purchased by the households. These households can also get contacts of trained masons, available locally to conduct the retrofitting work in their toilets. The toilet clinic will also develop a cadre of sanitation janitors who can take the role of operation and maintenance of public and community toilets. The initiative of Toilet Clinic (that started in Bihar) has been adopted at the National level and is being scaled up in all the states and districts for ODF sustainability and toilet maintenance.
About the Position:
These 4 positions are block level positions which will be based in two blocks of Muzaffarpur, one block in Darbhanga and one block in Sitamarhi. She/he will have to coordinate with the district and block level Lohiya Swachh Bihar Abhiyan (LSBA) teams and officials, Jeevika teams at block, CLFs, PRIs for implementation of project activities in the project “Promoting and Strengthening Sanitation Markets in Bihar”.
Coordination with WADS team members in the project along with timely data collection & reporting will be part of the said position. She/he will also have to support the project activities as per requirement in the blocks/districts as per need and request from the donor team members and office orders from LSBA.
The said position will be for a period of 10 months from the date of joining.
Desired Expectations/ Key Responsibilities:
• Work closely with Program Coordinator and other team members of the organisation, counterparts to implement the project activities including development of roadmaps, work-plans, activities, reports, etc.
• Work closely with block/district stakeholders for implementation of project activities as per agreed plan of action. Provide required technical assistance and support to team members of LSBA in the block
• Coordinate with Jeevika team at the block level for smooth functioning of the Toilet Clinics established
• Coordinate and work closely with Jeevika CLFs and SHG members in demand creation of toilet repair and retrofitting, new toilet construction, climate resilient and safely managed sanitation systems and hand hygiene initiatives
• Support Toilet Clinics and the SHG groups in business development for sanitation and hygiene promotion
• Establishment of innovative ecosystem for incubating and testing local solutions to promote healthy hygiene behaviours among communities.
• Work with the community, PRI members, institutions, sanitation workers for the Promotion of and Strengthening Sanitation Markets in Bihar
• Facilitate project activities including trainings, on-site demonstration, workshop planning, logistics planning and management to ensure smooth project implementation, etc.
• Support the CLFs, SHGs and other stakeholders in generating demand for toilet construction, toilet retrofitting’s, campaigns, operation and maintenance related to safely managed sanitation systems and hand hygiene for all
• Develop documents like field reports, monthly and quarterly reports, assessment reports, success stories, case studies etc. as per the program need and local context.
• Represent WADS Foundation at block/district level meetings involving government and development partners.
• Frequent travel to the Gram Panchayats and villages as per the project and organizational requirements. Travel to WADS Foundation offices or donor offices can happen as per the project requirement or meetings.
• Perform other activities, as assigned by the Team Leader to achieve organizational/project goals
Qualifications Required:
• Graduate from reputed university/college etc. with 3 years of relevant experience in the field of social development/social works and having good communication skills
• Minimum 2 years of progressive experience in the areas of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene
• Ability to work with diverse technical team
• Ability to multitask and work under multicultural environment
• Data compilation and Report writing
• Proficiency in computers – Microsoft Office is desirable
• Ability and willingness to travel extensively in rural areas
