The Wisconsin DNR is hiring an LTE (Limited Term Employee) – Water Resources Management Specialist. The position may be stationed at our offices in La Crosse or Eau Claire, WI.

Position Summary
This is a seasonal position to assist in the physical, biological, and chemical monitoring of surface waters for Water Resources in West District. Work will consist of conducting stream and river electro-fishing surveys, conducting habitat assessments, determining stream flows, macroinvertebrate sampling, and water chemistry sampling at various locations within the district.
75% Assist Water Resources Staff conducting baseline, targeted, evaluation, project, and other surface water monitoring as part of a team led by Water Resource Biologists. Work will consist of electro-fishing surveys, stream habitat assessments, determining stream flows, macroinvertebrate sampling, and water chemistry sampling at various locations within DNR’s West Districts. Three to five days per week will involve field work, weather permitting.
15% Manage and enter data into appropriate statewide databases and help generate summary reports.
10% Maintain equipment and assist biologists with other duties, as assigned.

Limited Term Employment: This is a Limited Term Employment (LTE) position. LTE positions do not automatically lead to permanent state employment or enjoy the same benefits as permanent employees; however, these positions do offer valuable work experience and an opportunity to learn more about career opportunities with the Department of Natural Resources and the State of Wisconsin.
LTE employees are limited to working 1039 hours per position within a twelve-month period.
Residency Requirement: In order to be considered for this position, you must be a resident of the State of Wisconsin.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
– Knowledge of aquatic biology, stream ecology, water chemistry, or watershed management
– Computer skills – Microsoft Word, Excel
– Ability to work in a team setting and in adverse weather conditions
Preferred Qualifications:
– Prior coursework or degree in water quality assessment of surface waters
– Experience using protocols for water quality assessments of streams, lakes, and river including habitat assessments, water chemistry sampling, electro-fishing surveys
– Prior coursework or experience in fish taxonomy
