Summary

We are looking for a candidate that is well experience in hydraulic modeling, who is collaborative, and organized. The candidate will be responsible for maintaining the GLWA hydraulic model and for performing simulations. These include, but are not limited to, the following: model updates, calibration and validation, design storms, event analysis, what-if scenarios, operational optimization, and the like.

Job Responsibilities

  • Works under the direction of the Wastewater Analytics, Planning and Metering Director.  Works collaboratively to meet the needs of operations and engineering
  • Manages and maintains the GLWA Storm Water Management Model (SWMM) repository.
  • Works with GLWA’s GIS Team and Systems Control Center to extract data needed for modeling, model updates, calibration, and validation
  • Reviews plans, drawings, specifications, and detailed computations from engineering projects.  Incorporate changes into the model
  • Perform and analyze simulations inclusive of calibration and validation, post-event analysis, event forecasting, what-if scenarios, and the like.  Prepare engineering reports and other correspondence
  • Prepare request for proposals to hire consultants, manage consultant contracts, process consultant invoices
  • Establish and maintain relationships with internal/external clients, vendors, and other stakeholders.  Participate in the Wastewater Analytics Task Force and the Model User Group.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of modeling processes and procedures consistent with best practices, federal, state, and local laws
  • Identify and implement process improvements, team member training needs, and new technology recommendations
  • Provide analyses, performance indicators, and reports for the management team, board, committees, and all other stakeholders
  • Stay current with industry trends by participating in educational opportunities and professional/community organizations
  • Follow security and safety policies and procedures in carrying out work duties
  • Respond to all requests for project information in a timely fashion
  • Coordinate meetings and tasks with other units across the organization
  • Perform related work duties as assigned

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in civil, environmental, or related engineering discipline.
  • Three (3) or more years of experience with hydraulic modeling in SWMM, preferably in a municipal or public utility setting

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Three (3) or more years of experience with Python.

Other Requirements

  • A valid Michigan Driver’s License and the ability to commute to GLWA facilities and work sites.

Environmental Working Requirements:

Work is primarily performed in an office environment with exposure to computer screens, working in team offices, and closely with all staffing levels. This position benefits from the ability to perform work at the plants or in a field environment.
