Join us at the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW) as a Senior Environmental Water Management Officer, where you will be responsible for the management of water for the environment in the Snowy and montane systems in NSW.
About the role:
The south-west Environmental Water and Floodplain team is currently seeking to appoint a Senior Environmental Water Management Officer – to join our dedicated and highly regarded environmental water management team to be a key contributor in supporting the delivery of positive environmental outcomes for the communities of NSW.
In the role, you will lead a small team that is responsible for the strategic development and implementation of environmental water flow plans for the Snowy and montane rivers consistent with relevant policies, practices and statutory requirements. The role will determine and coordinate monitoring and reporting on environmental outcomes and develop and coordinate water delivery partnerships and stakeholder management including with Snowy Hydro Limited, the Commonwealth and Victorian agency partners. You will liaise closely with the Snowy Advisory Committee, attending meetings and providing technical expertise. Local community, First Nations and landholder engagement is also a key element to the role. The role will operate within a larger geographically disperse team that is comprised of dedicated, passionate people who want to leave positive legacies for our rivers, floodplains and wetlands, their biota and human communities.
To be successful in this role, you will:
- Demonstrate knowledge and experience in water, river and wetland management, planning and delivery including the hydrology and/or ecology of rivers, floodplains and wetlands.
- Demonstrate knowledge of relevant water, threatened species and biodiversity conservation legislation and policies, including the requirements of the Snowy Water Licence.
- Demonstrate ability and experience at complex and multi-disciplined project management.
- Have excellent communication and organisation abilities, with a demonstrated track record of collaborating across diverse stakeholder groups and being able to communicate to a wide range of audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to be highly self-motivated, organised, work effectively autonomously whilst also in a geographically dispersed team environment.
- Hold a degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent experience.
- Have a current NSW Class C Drivers Licence.
