Role Description:
Based in the UK, we have an exciting opportunity for an Associate Technical Director to join the Consultancy (technical advisory) discipline within our Water Management business.
Water Management Consultancy provides a wide variety of technical and strategic advisory services, with a deep understanding of clients and the regulatory frameworks within the water sector. We work as a trusted advisor with organisations facing complex or novel situations, providing strategic and technical advice from subject matter experts to help clients understand the situation and choose effective solutions.
Our end-to-end services cover strategies, roadmaps, and advisory services, often working on brand new or emerging initiatives for clients. The scope of these services span options appraisal, business case production, benefits management, design and delivery, business change and efficiency, programme and asset management, digital solutions, and stakeholder engagement. We help out clients navigate these difficult and complex workstreams and help them realise their goals, be it flood risk management, carbon reduction, or improved benefits realisation.
The challenges our clients face are multi-faceted, and so our team prides itself on taking a holistic approach to our clients needs and the solutions available. Our team has expertise in technical fields such as flood risk management, nutrient neutrality, integrated water management and water resources, to name a few. Where additional experience is needed, we work in close collaboration with Arcadis’ global community of technical experts to lead multi-disciplinary teams that provide co-ordinated, sustainable solutions. Role Accountabilities:
Reporting to the Consultancy Discipline Lead, you will be a senior member of the Water Management business. You will manage and direct the Consultancy team, whilst providing both leadership and technical guidance. You will play a vital role in growing the business and creating opportunity. Additional responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:
- Applying your skills, knowledge, and insight to oversee the delivery of projects on time, meeting both quality and budgetary targets, whilst striving to exceed client expectations.
- Engagement with current and potential clients to understand and meet their needs
- Commercial growth and ensuring the profitable operation of the accounts.
- Identifying consultancy advisory opportunities for pursuit; leading or contributing to effective and efficient bid management.
- Creating and promoting marketing and capability material for the team’s services and contributing to the company’s wider marketing.
- Collaborating with key members and resources from the Water Management teams, our Global Excellence Centres and wider business to deliver seamless service offerings.
- Encouraging innovative and entrepreneurial thinking among team members.
- Guide the development of the team with succession planning, CPD, mentoring and building an effective development structure through relevant professional development programmes.
- Contribute to thought leadership in the water management business in your particular area(s) of technical expertise
Qualifications & Experience:
- Experience of working at a senior level ideally, but not exclusively, within the water management sector – candidates with a wider environmental or industry background will also be considered
- Proven track record of technical expertise and commercial growth for flood risk management; expertise in at least one other topic would be advantageous e.g. nutrient neutrality, integrated water management, water resources, business change and efficiency.
- Well-developed commercial skills with a demonstrated ability in sales, bidding, and business development and the ability to convert conceptual ideas into opportunities
- Ability and enthusiasm to build teams and accounts through a highly collaborative approach
- The confidence and flexibility to thrive in the delivery of projects in structured and unstructured work environments
- Demonstrated ability to recruit and lead a team with good influencing, motivating and delegation skills
- Confident communicator and strong relationship building skills, both internally and externally
- A willingness to work in client co-located offices and teams (hybrid remote working)
- An engineering, environmental, or science-based educational background
- Chartered status and membership of a relevant professional institution (e.g. CIWEM, ICE, APM)
