POSITION PURPOSE
Join a dynamic, collaborative, and inclusive team of comparative animal physiologists that conduct integrative and interdisciplinary research on aquatic insects and crustaceans. We seek an entry level professional researcher with interests in contributing to ongoing projects focused on the impacts of FRESHWATER salinization and climate warming on the ion transport physiology of aquatic invertebrates. 

POSITION COMPLEXITIES AND IMPACT:
What are the environmental constraints that dictate the ion transport physiology of aquatic insects and crustaceans, and how will future climate change scenarios and anthropogenic stressors impact these animals. The successful candidate will help our team answer these fundamental and pressing questions using a breadth of molecular biology, electrophysiology, and behavioral tools.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Research Technologist 2 (NE S SEIU 925 RT) has the following responsibilities:
Routine animal care and rearing tasks (20%).
Conducting and supporting ongoing laboratory experiments, data acquisition, and data analyses (30%).
Ordering and maintaining lab supplies and manage lab safety (20%).
Training and guiding the work of junior staff (20%).
Contribute data/findings for use in lab presentations and publications (with authorship), attend lab meetings (10%).

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s Degree in an appropriate field of technology or science, PLUS one year of research experience equivalent to Research Technologist I OR one year of full-time post-baccalaureate college in an appropriate field of science or technology. Professional level experience may be substituted, year-for-year, for the formal academic degree.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
The announcement of position vacancy (recruiting bulletin) may specify course work or experience within a specific discipline if determined necessary by the personnel officer.
Training or experience within a specific discipline will be required to meet the unique requirements of individual positions.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
The position is ideally suited for someone considering graduate school and who wants to spend a few years in a lab first and gain relevant and transferable skills. Desired knowledge and abilities include:
1 year of previous experience working in cell biology, biochemistry, or related laboratory.
Successful completion of courses in basic life sciences: specifically animal physiology, invertebrate zoology, cell and molecular biology, marine biology/conservation, biochemistry, or related courses.
Has assembled and operated various laboratory equipment and apparatuses.
While previous lab experience is preferred, we will provide the necessary training. Previous experience in one or more of the following are ideal:
       –  Histology, fluorescence microscopy, and image analyses.
       –  Proficient in basic molecular biology techniques (qPCR, Western blotting).
       –  Experience with electrophysiological techniques (patch clamping, ion-selective microelectrodes, or relevant approaches).
       –  Daily maintenance and rearing of live animals.
