Summary: The Section Manager is responsible for the management of affairs of the Wisconsin Section of the American Water Works Association (Section). Reporting to the volunteer Board of Trustees (Board), the Section Manager supports the activities of the Board and its various committees. Taking strategic direction from the Board, the Section Manager serves as the primary point of contact for members, outside entities, and the American Water Works Association (Association); delivers the Section’s programs; maintains contact with its members; and represents the Section to current and potential members. The Section Manager will serve as the liaison between the Section and the Association.

The ideal candidate is a proactive and dynamic non-profit association professional interested in becoming the key staff member for the Wisconsin Section. With a can-do attitude, the final candidate will have the ability to learn and grow into the essential job functions, while making the role their own.

Essential Job Functions: The Section Manager shall perform services on behalf of the Section as follows and other duties that may be assigned:

  • Provide general and best-management-practices in guiding and promoting the Section within the Wisconsin water community.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with the board, committee chairs, members, industry peers, and national organization.
  • Oversee relationship with contractors, vendors, consultants, etc. to facilitate day-to-day operations.
  • Bring an understanding of non-profit association governance and interest in becoming a subject matter expert on Section policies, member benefits, programs, etc.
  • Proactively manages and supports membership recruitment and retention, volunteer committees, and special projects.
  • Responsible for maintaining the Section’s website, event calendar, and membership database.
  • Support the Secretary-Treasurer with invoice processing, preliminary budget development, and reports on Section’s financial position.
  • Facilitate all logistics for annual conference and training events, including registration and education certificates.
  • Handle daily administration and clerical duties for the Section.
  • Attend in-person and virtual meetings to achieve engagement goals.

Education & Experience:

  • Graduation from a four-year college with a degree in management, business administration, engineering, environmental science, or related curriculum with at least 3 years of administrative or other leadership experience preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Special Requirements:

  • Background working with national or state associations.
  • Strong skills in coordination, organization, and relationship building preferred.
  • Remote work required.
  • Willingness and ability to travel and attend in-person meetings as required, including furnishing your own reliable vehicle.
  • Residing in, or willing to relocate to, Wisconsin.
  • Experience in the water and/or utility profession desirable, but not required.

Hours & Compensation:

  • The Section is open to a W-2 or 1099 structure of employment. Compensation and employment structure are negotiable. The total starting compensation package is anticipated to be between $50,000 and $75,000.
  • The Section Manager is expected to work 20 to 40 hours per week with an annual average of 25 to 35 hours per week.
