Technical Consulting and Applied Research
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Researcher to lead a “Research for Impact” project on climate adaptation. The successful candidate will be responsible for spearheading research initiatives aimed at understanding and enhancing the resilience of vulnerable communities to the impacts of climate change, particularly focusing on access to water.
This role involves conducting comprehensive research, developing adaptation strategies, and engaging with a diverse range of stakeholders across various countries to facilitate the implementation of effective climate adaptation measures.
Responsibilities
- Research Leadership: Lead the design and implementation of research studies focused on climate adaptation, vulnerability assessment, and resilience building in multiple countries.
- Strategy Development: Develop innovative climate adaptation strategies and policies based on research findings, tailored to the specific needs and contexts of each country.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Engage with government officials, community leaders, NGOs, academic institutions, and international organisations to promote collaboration and ensure the alignment of adaptation efforts.
- Data Analysis and Modeling: Perform advanced data analysis and modeling to predict climate change impacts and evaluate the effectiveness of adaptation strategies.
- Capacity Building: Strengthen the research and adaptation capacity of partner organisations and communities through workshops, training sessions, and knowledge-sharing activities.
- Funding and Grants Management: Identify funding opportunities, prepare grant proposals, and manage project budgets and resources effectively.
- Team Leadership: Mentor and supervise junior researchers and project staff, fostering an inclusive and collaborative team environment.
Qualifications and Skills
Education
A PhD in Environmental Science, Climate Change, Geography, Water Resources or a related field.
Experience
At least five years of relevant research experience in climate
Skills
- Expertise in climate change impacts, vulnerability assessments, and adaptation strategies.
- A publication track record and an interest in publishing and mentoring PhD students.
- A deep passion for enabling transformative change by application of design thinking/ solution innovation.
- Strong quantitative and qualitative research skills, including proficiency at least one research skill such as in statistical analysis, hydrological modeling and GIS tools.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across different cultural contexts.
- Demonstrated success in securing managing complex project budgets and willingness to ask tough questions to hold the team accountable.
- Strong leadership and team management abilities, with a commitment to mentoring and capacity building of junior researchers.
- Fluent in English, with proficiency in additional languages, especially Kannada, being highly desirable.
