WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHER

The Chile Marine Conservation Practitioner’s job includes the planning, and implementation of marine biodiversity conservation efforts in the field, collaboration in technical, scientific and policy analyses, and support on the development of institutional arrangements for marine conservation, including communication and coordination with a variety of public and private partners and stakeholders. It also includes supporting the Chile Ocean program in administrative and financial management work, and the monitoring of contracts and agreements, as well as the logistics associated with events, training activities, field work, and trips for staff and partners. Work is done mainly in TNC’s office, but it requires an important proportion of work in the field, mainly related to monitoring and logistics. He/she will work under the supervision of the Chile Ocean Coordinator.
Uses TNC’s code of conduct and competencies as a baseline to conduct their actions and be an example for others.
This is a 2-year term contract

The Marine Conservation Practitioner develops, manages, and supports the advances of the marine conservation work in Chile’s Ocean Program.  
Other important functions include supporting other conservation programs and strategies in TNC as needed, supporting the operational plans of the Ocean’s strategies, working closely with the Chile Ocean’s Team.

RESPONSIBILITIES & SCOPE
•    Support the design and implementation of marine conservation strategies in Chile.
•    Supports planning processes and implements activities to achieve marine conservation goals in close collaboration with project partners.
•    Maintain effective communication and coordination between the Conservancy and partners in the field (including fishing communities and protected areas authorities, among others).
•    Gather and analyse data to inform management tools and produce lessons learned, produce communication materials and other relevant documents for positioning TNC as a leading marine conservation NGO in Chile.
•    Financial responsibility may include support the tracking, execution, and reporting of projects budgets, and supervise contracts with vendors, assisting with budget development.  
•    May work under minimal and/or distant supervision; may make some independent decisions based on analysis, experience, and context.  
•    May work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain and under physically demanding circumstances.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING

•    Bachelor’s degree in biology, ecology, natural resources management, fisheries, and 3 years’ experience in natural resource management or similar field and 3 years’ experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
•    Proven experience of work in fisheries management and marine conservation.
•    Experience in dealing with technical and logistics of organizing meetings and workshops.
•    Experience in multi-actor and multi-level planning processes. 
•    Relationship building experience to work closely with a variety of partners, i.e., media, government officials, internal scientists. 
•    Experience completing tasks independently with respect to timeline(s).
•    Experience with communication via written, spoken, and graphical means in English and Spanish.
•    Class B driver’s license
•    Experience using common software applications such as Word, Excel, web browsers, etc.
•    Full COVID-19 Vaccination 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
•    Multi-lingual skills and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated.
•    3-5 years’ experience in marine conservation, similar field or equivalent combination of education and experience.  
•    Knowledge of administrative and financial management work, and the monitoring of contracts and agreements.
