JOB PURPOSE

We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced individual to join us in this role as the Specialist, Hygiene Promotion and Capacity Building for our Water Sanitation and Hygiene Programme (WASH) team. In this role, your primary objective will be to develop an effective and sustainable Hygiene Promotion model, including Menstrual Hygiene Promotion (MHM) and implement the model with the active participation of the programme participants (at schools and communities) to change hygiene behavior through the utilization of digital platforms/apps or other innovative approaches. This role requires building the capacity of the BRAC staff through design and conduct of training/orientation as well as coordinating and integrating Hygiene Promotion activities with the provision of water and sanitation services to ensure their effectiveness.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design and develop innovative hygiene promotion strategies through the utilization of digital platforms/apps, guidelines, and training modules for field operations aligned with ongoing and future WASH projects
  • Develop a comprehensive plan and budget for implementing Hygiene Promotion activities by ensuring resources are implemented at full capacity at the local level and establishing a sustainable operation system for WASH programs/projects staff.
  • Regularly conduct studies for the identification of gaps (through TNA) among WASH programme/project staff and facilitate need-based training/orientation for building capacity to achieve the goals of the AOP/projects.
  • Identify the key hygiene practices to be addressed for different ages and classes of the population with whom to engage and develop an appropriate communications strategy to promote safe practices.
  • Collaborate with other WASH team members to select effective BCC/IEC materials for different target audiences to ensure the quality of hygiene awareness and behavioral change activities.
  • In collaboration with the WASH team, design and manage assessments to identify hygiene health risks and priorities in schools, health care facilities, and communities.
  • Supervise and monitor hygiene behavior change activities, and provide technical support to the WASH team on hygiene promotion activities, including menstrual hygiene management.
  • Collaborate with sector stakeholders to rapidly disseminate hygiene messages, including menstrual hygiene management, using digital platforms/apps like Ananya Apps.
  • Ensure that gender, protection, environmental, and other important cross-cutting concerns are taken into account in programme design, implementation, and reporting; ensure that activities reflect the needs of specific groups and individuals, e.g. elderly people, children, and people with disabilities.
  • Prepare the BCC report, budget the allocation of different BCC materials, and assist in writing the project proposal.
  • Liaison with different government and non-government organizations and agencies for sharing assessments, plans, and activities as necessary, as well as extracting best practices on hygiene promotion as a lesson learned or replication. 

SAFEGUARDING RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure the safety of Programme Participants, people who come into contact with the organisation and team members from any harm, abuse, neglect, harassment and exploitation including sexual exploitation and abuse (SEA) to achieve the programme’s goals of safeguarding implementation. Act as a key source of support, guidance and expertise on safeguarding for establishing a safe working environment.
  • Practice, promote and endorse the issues of safeguarding policy among team members and ensure the implementation of safeguarding standards in every course of action.
  • Follow the safeguarding reporting procedure in case any reportable incident takes place and encourage others to do so.

ADDITIONAL JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Strong writing and oral communication skills in English and/or Bangla
  • Well-presentable through multimedia in forums or meetings by demonstrating complex information to multiple audiences
  • Good interpersonal skills to engage with diverse stakeholders effectively
  • Familiarity with BCC/IEC materials development
  • Negotiation and problem solving skills

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Masters in any relevant subject preferrably from Public Health, Nutrition, Social science from any recognized university.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Minimum 5 years of practical experience in the WASH sector, with at least 2 years in the promotion of hygiene by applying innovative approaches.
