Job Summary:

The Lake Superior Collaborative (LSC) is a network of organizations working in partnership to coordinate protection, restoration, & climate resilience efforts in the Wisconsin portion of the Lake Superior watershed. The Program Coordinator will provide important support and leadership for the Collaborative through work with the partners to organize and facilitate the LSC leadership team and several workgroups. The coordinator will manage communications via newsletter, website updates, and managing the list serve. The LSC hosts a symposium each year that the coordinator will take the lead on planning.

This role serves as a liaison for the Collaborative to build coalitions and engage with potential new partners throughout Wisconsin’s Lake Superior watershed.

The Program Coordinator will also support the Headwaters to Coast landscape scale planning initiative, which aligns with the mission and strategic priorities of the LSC and engages many of the LSC partners. The objectives of the Initiative are to develop a conservation blueprint for the Wisconsin south-shore of Lake Superior and then strategically deliver habitat restoration, protection and enhancement from the headwaters to the coast within the Lake Superior basin.

The coordinator will work cooperatively with the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service in the project area to provide project coordination, management and meeting facilitation in the development of a conservation blueprint.

The Program Coordinator position will be located at the Northern Great Lakes Visitor Center and will be expected to contribute to the mission of the NGLVC by supporting Center operations. This may include occasionally staffing the visitor services desk, assisting with programming, committees, and other tasks that support the collective mission of the NGLVC partner organizations.

Responsibilities:

Organizes the development and delivery of outreach programs, including the responsibility for staffing. Assists with policy development and organizes resources to promote stable and productive relationships between the university and local community. Strives to expand and ensure access to programs, facilities, and educational services to diverse audiences.

  • 35% Identifies, promotes, and maintains internal and external partnerships to promote the outreach program
  • 35% Schedules and secures logistics and resources in support of an outreach program
  • 15% Identifies opportunities for program improvement or new outreach program development
  • 5% Communicate plans, activities and achievements to partners, funders, and relevant stakeholders

Qualifications:

Required:
-Demonstrated experience working with and facilitating cooperative processes with diverse partners, including federal and state agencies, local governments, non-profit organizations, and Native Nations
-Ability to communicate effectively using a variety of methods and technologies
-Experience in managing multiple tasks, timelines and schedules while maintaining high quality work
-Experience working with people from different cultural backgrounds, including those associated with race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, socioeconomic status, age, gender, disability, sexual orientation, and other aspects of human diversity

Preferred:
-Experience working independently to assess needs, determine resource needs, and engaging with appropriate partners to achieve a collective goal
-Understanding of and experience working with Native Nations
-Demonstrated skill in interpreting, utilizing, and applying evidence-based information and research findings

Full or Part Time: 75% – 100%

This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.

This position is expected to be fully onsite for the first 4-6 months and then can transition to a partial remote schedule with satisfactory performance.

The anticipated location for this position is the Northern Great Lakes Visitor Center in Ashland, WI. Final location will be determined based on programmatic needs and successful candidate’s preferences and availability of suitable space.

This position is funded primarily through partnership agreements contingent upon available funding. The initial period of employment will be 3 years (through 9/30/27), with the possibility to be extended contingent upon available funding.
