Position: Lower Fraser Regional Assistant

Location: Within the Lower Fraser Region – Fraser Valley or Metro Vancouver.

Position type: Temporary summer position up to 16 weeks, Full-time, 35 hours per week

Pay: $20 to $23/ hour depending on experience.

The Rivershed Society of BC (Rivershed) is looking for enthusiastic summer staff to join our Regional Engagement Team in the Lower Fraser. The Regional Assistant will support Riveshed’s Lower Fraser programing and outreach, including preparation and attendance at in-person events. This position will work ~75% from a home office and ~25% in-person, requiring some evening and weekend work.

The ideal candidate is passionate about Watershed CPR (Connect, Protect, Restore), with strong communication skills and is confident working in a position that engages with the public. You are detail-oriented with the ability to adapt and think creatively when appropriate.

Rivershed is a remote team that is located throughout, and outside, the Fraser Watershed. The candidate is required to have an appropriate home office set up and be comfortable working with virtual supervision. Rivershed provides a supportive and healthy work environment which includes working from home with flexible hours, virtual team building, and decolonization/anti-racism learning sessions.

Duties include: 

  • Support connecting with community groups, NGOs, institutions, and other collaborators to further Rivershed’s mission and goals.
  • Represent Rivershed at events as required.
  • Work with the engagement team to keep contact database up to date and effective.
  • Draft and/or review documents related to Rivershed programs and events.
  • Support coordination and development of on-site programs and activities, working with the team to ensure all components relevant to programs and events are planned, delivered and evaluated.
  • Provide content  to ensure external communications for programs and events are accurate, accessible, and delivered in a timely manner.
  • Participate in staff and team meetings as required.
  • Participate in ongoing decolonization and reconciliation discussions.
  • Assist in writing and preparing grants, progress reports, presentations, and other documents as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills and Experience: 

  • Organized, professional, and attentive, with strong communication and writing skills.
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability juggle multiple tasks and demands, working both independently and with a remote team across departments.
  • Proficient use of database and computer programs and online tools such as Keela, Microsoft 365 (primarily Outlook, Teams, Word and Excel).
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent follow through.
  • Working knowledge of issues that affect the Fraser Watershed.
  • Event coordination, tabling and outreach experience.
  • A positive team player who thrives in a cooperative, collaborative environment
