Description and Requirements

The Global Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) team is presently hiring for a Water and Environmental Engineer role based at Lenovo’s Morrisville, North Carolina headquarters location or remote.

The Water and Environmental Engineer will be responsible for managing Lenovo’s corporate water resiliency program and corporate level site environmental programs.  This role requires strong project management skills and a background in environmental compliance with a focus on water resiliency.  This position will work closely with internal Lenovo organizations including real estate, manufacturing operations, and procurement to support water and environmental management programs within Lenovo’s operations and our supply chain.  The position will be responsible for developing Lenovo’s corporate strategy for water resiliency and will work closely with other teams to drive Lenovo’s risk management programs in this area.  This position will manage Lenovo’s annual submissions to key external surveys and collaborate to provide water, waste and biodiversity related disclosures for reporting frameworks, analyst and other ESG survey requirements. They will drive innovation in Lenovo’s water resources programs and other ESG and environmental programs to help Lenovo meet its commitments in this area. 

The Water Resources and Environmental Engineer is responsible for:

Overall ownership and execution at the corporate level for Lenovo’s water resiliency program.

  • Identify and communicate key water risks and support programs and targets to mitigate for Lenovo operations.
  • Work with Lenovo’s procurement teams as needed to support supply chain and supplier engagement strategies and activities addressing water resiliency in the supply chain.
  • Develop and monitor metrics to show sustained progress in water resiliency.
  • Engage in NGO, industry, trade association and customer discussions on this topic.
  • Continually monitor progress of programs and report progress to management and other stakeholders.

 Engage with internal stakeholders in communications and sales, as well as customers and NGOs, to communicate Lenovo’s strategy and achievements in this area.

  • Maintain Lenovo’s Water Resiliency Policy.
  • Respond to water, waste and other environmental related portions of external surveys including CDP.
  • Submit annual communication on progress to UN CEO Water Mandate.
  • Complete required reporting for Lenovo’s participation in UN Faster Forward program.
  • Track and report key water, waste, and other environmental impacts via a variety of measures including internal databases, external sustainability reporting, and responding to surveys.
  • Supporting detailed environmental reporting for Lenovo’s annual ESG Report related to water, waste and other relevant data.

Manage Lenovo’s corporate level site environmental programs including:

  • Maintain Lenovo’s Site Environmental Practice Manual and list of site environmental focal points.
  • Collect sites’ significant changes, significant aspect analysis, risks and opportunities, and objective and targets.
  • Communicate with key internal stakeholders including site environmental focal points on best practices.
  • Complete semi-annual corporate approval of environmental data for Americas region.

   Support additional ESG initiatives, which may include:

  • Providing support to real estate, manufacturing, procurement, and corporate teams in establishing and driving operational environmental metrics and improvement programs for topics including solid waste and recycling.
  • Drive improvements in environmental data collection and reporting.
  • Support exploration of methodologies and benchmarking related to product water metrics and water product footprint.
  • Support research of frameworks and best practices related to biodiversity and participate in the Science Based Targets for Nature (SBTN) Corporate Engagement program.
  • Support development of biodiversity initiatives as needed.
  • Support responsible communication of environmental claims.
  • Other initiatives as needed.

Basic Job Requirements:

  • 5+ years of experience in water or other environmental engineering or management
  • Bachelors degree in environmental engineering science, policy, or related field

 Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters Degree in environmental engineering, science, policy, or related field.
  • Experience managing water resources and environmental compliance programs.
  • Familiarity with water risk mapping tools including WRI Aqueduct, WWF Water Risk Filter, or others.
  • Experience with global environmental metrics and management programs for water and other environmental or ESG impacts, such as waste or biodiversity. 
  • Experience responding to key surveys and metrics in the area of water resources, including CDP. 
  • Experience with environmental leadership initiatives such as UN CEO Water Mandate, the UN Forward Faster program, SBTN, or others.
  • Understanding of ISO 14001 environmental management systems.
  • Experience with zero waste or other waste management programs desired but not required. 

The base salary budgeted range for this position is $110-120K.  Individuals may also be considered for bonus and/or commission. Lenovo’s various benefits can be found on www.lenovobenefits.com
