Job description

The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is implementing the Global Project (GV) Water and Energy for Food (WE4F) on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the European Union (EU). The project is the German contribution to the international initiative Water and Energy for Food (WE4F) Grand Challenge.

The aim of the project is to promote innovations throughout the agri-food systems that ensure the production of more and better food with less resources (energy/water). The project concentrates on five fields of action: strengthening the skills and capacities of the selected innovators, skills development for end users and multipliers, improving access to suitable financing, improving political and sectoral framework conditions, and strengthening exchanges and learnings among specialists at the regional and global levels.

The GIZ WE4F Steering Unit in Bonn is looking for an intern to support in general WE4F project management, communication and technical advisory on Water-Energy-Food Nexus innovations.
The programme is coming to an end at the end of the year and will focus on peer-2-peer learning between innovators, gathering lessons-learned and sharing them at international conferences.

Your tasks

  • Supporting the general project management and coordination of the program
  • Supporting the implementation of activities in the field of innovative agricultural practices, private sector engagement, climate change and global agenda setting
  • Participating in the conceptualization, preparation and follow-up of events (conferences, workshops, meetings etc.)
  • Preparing presentation materials and knowledge products
  • Supporting the stakeholder management (e.g. internal/external partners such as USAID, partner organizations, Nexus-related networks, donors incl. BMZ)
  • Support in Communications of the project (content creation and layout for social media, website, newsletter, talking points for events)

Your profile

  • Bachelor’s degree in political sciences, geography, agriculture, international relations, communications or any other relevant field
  • Interest in development cooperation is a prerequisite
  • Regional experience of working or doing research in East or West Africa would be an asset
  • Practical experience in the water-energy-food nexus, ideally in the development context
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English
  • A good command of German and French is an additional asset
  • Quick comprehension and stress resilience, pro-activeness
  • Intercultural competence and sensitivity to other cultural contexts
  • Proficient usage of MS-Office programs (particularly Power Point, Excel, MS Teams)

Please be informed that you are only allowed to apply for this internship, if you are currently enrolled as a student or graduated not longer than six months ago from the start of your internship.

We pay a monthly stipend of €2.134,52 (gross). Depending on the country of assignment a monthly expatriation allowance (gross), predetermined by GIZ will be paid on top.
