Job Description:The University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science (UMCES) invites applications for a Faculty Research Assistant who will serve as a coordinator with a strong science or environmental policy educational background. The successful candidate will work with dynamic agency and academic partners. The position is based at the Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) in Annapolis, Maryland, and offers a hybrid or in-person work schedule.

Areas of Responsibility
This position will advance the goals of restoring Maryland’s waterways and bays by working to integrate environmental restoration and resilience into the state’s programs; provide staff support to Maryland’s Bays Watershed Workgroup; and enhance workflow processes through better communication within internal partnerships. The position is also responsible for providing background content for bill reviews and policy notes, as well as serving on various Bay Program workgroups/working groups related to Chesapeake Bay Watershed Agreement water quality, climate and stewardship outcomes.

Three main tasks will be addressed during the objective’s term:
1. Improved Capacity of Bay Restoration and Resilience. This position will provide logistical and administrative support to Maryland’s Bays Workgroup through agenda and calendar setting and dissemination, note taking, meeting arrangement and management, workplan planning and scoping, development of briefing materials and presentations, and tracking and facilitating action items. This person will represent the State, DNR, and/or UMCES on select statewide and Chesapeake Bay Program Workgroups to direct and align Bays Workgroup tasks. Furthermore, this person will coordinate tracking and reporting of DNR’s Bay restoration under the state’s Watershed Implementation Program and milestone goals as well as Bay Agreement. 
2. Enhance Communication Workflow Processes. Incorporate an array of approaches to enhance workflow processes by assisting in the planning and execution of reoccurring meetings and seminars, including virtual, hybrid and in-person events. This position will disseminate information regarding organizational workflow as well as assisting with communication review and approval for various documents, presentations, and materials. 
3. Integrate Co-Benefits into Programs, Policies and Partnerships. The position supported under this objective will integrate climate resiliency and other co-benefits into various programs. Broadly, this will be accomplished by providing programmatic support for the Chesapeake and Atlantic Coastal Bays Trust Fund, with a specific task to assist with developing the targeting scheme and proposal review process to incorporate co-benefits. This person will review proposals for both the grant and pay for success programs. Finally, a subtask of this position is to assist in legislative bill reviews during state session to ensure co-benefits are incorporated and supported.

Minimum Qualifications:BS degree in environmental or natural sciences with at least 3 years of professional experience in a relevant role. This position requires excellent communication and collaboration that includes: strong written and verbal communication skills; high level of organize; and ability to work under tight timelines with multiple priorities.
Preferred Qualifications:MS degree in the environmental or natural sciences is preferred.
