Project Manager (River Restoration)

The Fife Coast and Countryside Trust (FCCT) is seeking a Project Manager to join our dynamic and effective team. Working with the Head of Development, the Project Manager will plan, co-ordinate and manage the development and delivery of projects. In partnership with SEPA and Fife Council, they will lead on specific river restoration projects as well as supporting wider initiatives and partnerships that contribute to our vision. Initial project focus for this post will be the Back Burn and River Leven Restoration Projects, closely linked with The Leven Programme. As these projects mature, focus will be on developing and delivering further river restoration projects across Fife.

The Project Manager will work collaboratively with FCCT teams, partners, funders, specialist consultants, communities, landowners, and other stakeholders. They will be responsible for stakeholder engagement, inspiring and leading project teams, communications, overseeing delivery, project reporting including finances to partners and funders, problem solving, and evaluation. The post will also play a key role in procurement, contract management, budgetary control, and securing funding whilst technical support is in place to support with these elements.

Essential Characteristics

  • Collaborative and engaging with the ability enthuse and inspire project teams and stakeholders.
  • Self-motivated and well organised individual who is driven by a belief in what they are doing and achieving the ambitions of the project.
  • Project management experience. Taking ownership of all stages from development through to evaluation with an eye for detail and budgetary diligence. Familiar with the use of project management tools and processes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present clearly and confidently to a range of audiences.
  • Excellent listening skills, with the ability to balance information and reach solutions by consensus.

This post is a full-time (36 hours per week) permanent post with an annual salary from £38,950.71 to £42,686.23 (FC8). Work will be delivered over a five-day week but may include some evening and weekend work as required.  Additional benefits include:

Countryside Wardens

We believe that our people are our greatest asset and look to employ individuals who bring a positive, energetic, constructive, and committed attitude to the workplace.

We are currently seeking ‘Countryside Wardens’ who will be an integral part in driving our work forward. The postholder will be placed within the Conservation & Engagement team and will report to the Access and Recreation Manager. They will help oversee the day-to-day management and responsible access at all FCCT sites in accordance with the Scottish Outdoor Access Code and deliver the obligations identified in the Service Level Agreement (SLA) with key stakeholders.

Essential characteristics:

  • Educated to SCQF level 6, which includes an HNC or equivalent in a relevant subject (e.g., Countryside Management). Time-served experience in a relevant position will also be considered.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of the Land Reform (Scotland) Act 2003 and how it affects access rights.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation.
  • Good track record of collaborative working, developing, and maintaining effective relationships.
  • Good standard of communication skills
  • Responsible character, confident and capable of working independently.
  • Confident talking to and conveying FCCT messages to a wide range of people.
  • A suitable standard of fitness (able to walk 15 miles and use hand tools like saws and spades) and able to work in adverse weather conditions.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to negotiate and be diplomatic, but also assertive.
  • Proactive and hard-working attitude.
  • A demonstrable personal interest in the countryside and the outdoors.
  • Excellent team player

We have 3 x temporary posts available on a full-time (36 hours per week) basis, with an annual salary from £23,633 to £25,829. Work will be delivered over a five-day week but will include regular weekend work and some evening work as required.
