Fisheries Management Officer (Graduate Development Program)
- Salary: $62,604 per annum (Plus Superannuation)
- Fixed term role: 2 years
- Usual hours of work: Full time (flexibility may be available for University students)

The Role
The two-year Graduate Program is a great entry level opportunity for a student or recent graduate to join the Victorian Fisheries Authority and the Victorian Public Service.
The position will utilise your knowledge and expertise to make impactful decisions that ensure the continued sustainability and growth of Victoria’s marine, freshwater and aquaculture fisheries.
The responsibilities of the Fisheries Management Officer will include:
- Gain hands-on-experience undertaking fieldwork, fishing promotional events, scientific research, and analysis for policy and project developments throughout the VFA organisation.
- Take advantage of opportunities to get out of the office and explore Victoria, on land and on the water, when working at fish hatcheries, undertaking field studies and observing education and enforcement operations.
- Work collaboratively within and across VFA branches and actively support Directors and other senior managers in the delivery of VFA programs.
The Team
The position of Fisheries Management Officer forms a part of the Fisheries Management branch of the Victorian Fisheries Authority.
The VFA has the responsibility of managing Victoria’s fisheries resources in a coordinated and strategic way to ensure their ongoing sustainability, while supporting the value they deliver to the commercial, recreational, aquaculture and Indigenous fishing sectors.
About You
The successful candidate will ideally have the following skills and experience:
- Demonstrated analytical skills that can provide innovative solutions to relevant issues.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to prepare written materials, letters, emails and reports in a timely and accurate manner.
- Well-developed organisational skills with a strong ability to work independently and prioritise tasks at hand.
To be considered for this role you must have recently completed or be in you final year of an undergraduate or postgraduate degree.
A qualification in marine science, agriculture or natural resources preferred, but all other qualifications will be considered.
