Everyone at our Department recognises the importance of a healthy environment. Whatever your job with us, you’ll strive and innovate to achieve a better Queensland.  Our role is complex, and our work can be challenging – important work usually is. But your contribution will count and so will you.

The Queensland Hydrology team sits within the Water Planning Science Branch.  We provide expert advice on modelling and the interpretation and utilisation of modelling results. We research and develop methodology in the water resource modelling space. We contribute to water resource management and policy at state and federal level.

We have multiple PO2 Hydrologist positions available, but may appoint candidates who are in process of completing an appropriate qualification.  You would be appointed to the PO1 classification until your degree is conferred.

As a Hydrologist you will:

  • Undertake investigations in the areas of surface water and groundwater hydrology, hydraulics, hydrogeology, numerical modelling, and geographical information systems.
  • Use, develop and maintain numerical models and supporting software to simulate the behaviour of water supply schemes, surface water, groundwater and floodplain systems, and changes in water quality including salinization.
  • Assist with incorporating climate change, stochastic and paleoclimate analyses into water resource modelling and assessment.
  • Evaluate and analyse data and prepare reports on water resource investigations and assessments.
  • Assist Senior Hydrologists in result interpretation and providing sound technical advice to staff, clients and stakeholders on the availability and reliability of water supplies.
  • Assist Senior Hydrologists in providing specialist hydrology assistance and advice for EIS reviews, reviews of consultancy reports, Land Court appeals, and policy development.
  • Work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary project team or as an individual and with minimal supervision, to meet deliverables.
  • Foster a workplace culture that supports and promotes the interests of First Nations people and actively engage through our work to contribute to better outcomes for First Nations people.

Applications to remain current for 12 months.
