Summary:  A postdoctoral opportunity is available in the department of Animal and Range Sciences, College of Agriculture, Consumer, and Environmental Sciences at New Mexico State University. The position will focus on climate change resilience and coping with drought in the Southwest US, primarily in New Mexico and Arizona. This position will support research projects funded by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). The postdoctoral candidate will collaborate with an interdisciplinary team of physical scientists, climatologists, social scientists, resource managers, decision makers, and stakeholders. The postdoctoral fellow is expected to support the project team to achieve the research objectives that include: 1) the development of timeseries of climate, drought, and vegetation datasets based on remote sensing products and ground-based observations; 2) evaluation of drought monitoring tools to detect ecological drought events and impacts; 3) assist in the development of an ecological drought communication framework for New Mexico and Arizona; 4) and support for climate services for communities in the Southwest US. The position will be available for two years and renewable based on annual performance for another 2 – 3 years. The candidate should have a PhD in Earth and/or environmental sciences or related fields with expertise in GIS, remote sensing, and programming skills in Python, R and MATLAB. Classification Summary:
Assist, instruct and function as a role model for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows in a relevant research program.

Classification Standard Duties:
Supervise, direct, delegate and evaluate work of assigned staff. Oversee and/or conduct research. Assist in technical support for the delegated project. Create new opportunities by preparing and submitting new project proposals to national funding agencies. Perform related duties as required.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
To conduct in hydrology to support couled human and natural systems analyses as part of NSF EPSCoR project

Preferred Qualifications

The candidates are required to have a Ph.D. in Hydrology, Ecohydrology, Climatology, Earth and Environmental Sciences, Ecology, Geography, Watershed Sciences, Natural Resources, Water Resources Management, Civil, or Environmental Engineering, or other related science degrees.
Experience in GIS, remote sensing, and programming skills (Python, R, or MATLAB), and cloud computing (eg. Google Earth Engine)
