Why does the job exist?
The purpose of this position in the Remediation Oversight Section of the Ground Water Quality Bureau is to provide technical oversight, regulatory oversight, and project management of environmental investigations and remediation conducted by responsible parties at industrial source sites.
How does it get done?
– Produce or review report relating to the investigation and remediation
– Plan and implement remediation and restoration strategies for industrial sources including generating stations and all associated infrastructure
– Sample techniques for soil, groundwater, soil vapor and indoor air
– Evaluate environmental assessment and remediation proposals
– Review technical document
– Conduct sampling and oversight of field work
– Manage a diverse and complex caseload
– Draft regulatory correspondence
– Facilitate public outreach

– New Mexicans to protect and restore the environment
– Occasional contact with external Federal, State and Local regulatory bodies as well as contractors and environmental not for profit organizations
– Internal staff
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have expertise in the following:
-Technical fields of Geology, Hydrology, Geochemistry, Hydrogeology, Chemistry, or Environmental Science
Minimum Qualification
Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture Science, Hydrology, Geology, Environmental Science, Water Resources, Watershed Management, Physics, Natural Science, Physical Science, Life Science, Biology, Chemistry, Geography, Forestry/Forest Science, Conservation Science, Wildlife Science Emergency Management or Engineering and four (4) years of relevant experience. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling eight (8) years may substitute for the required education and experience. Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver’s License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive a Defensive Driving Course certificate as a condition of continued employment.
Working Conditions
Work will primarily be performed in an office setting during normal business hours. This position may require extensive periods of typing, reviewing documentation, telephone usage, working with a computer, and attending meetings both virtually and in-person. Some periods of sitting, standing, bending, and reaching may be required. In-state travel, including some overnight travel is required. Outdoor field work is required in all types of weather conditions.
