Position Summary
We are currently recruiting for a fantastic opportunity to join our Nestlé Waters business as Sustainability Manager. This role will be based in our Buxton operational site, reporting directly into the Head of Corporate Affairs and Sustainability.
The role of Sustainability Manager plays an important role coordinating the implementation of our sustainability and community engagement plans relating to the Buxton site, providing support & coaching to colleagues based in our sister site at Princes Gate (Wales) as part of our ‘one team’ inclusive culture.
It will involve supplier management of long-term contracts with established partners, working closely with a network of other local stakeholders to inform and engage them in our journey. You will help innovate to find new solutions to existing challenges and seek to drive change that makes a positive impact to drive forwards our ‘Contributing to Society and Sustainable future’ plans.You will measure and track the progress being made, to help bring the work we are doing to life through our brands for employees, customers and consumers.

A day in the life of Sustainability Manager
A day if the life of a Sustainability Manager will see you working as part of a cross functional, multi-site based, passionate team to deliver our goals that help protect the catchments we work within, address shared challenges and build trust within our communities. You will co-create and co-ordinate the delivery of site-based programmes and initiatives alongside other technical experts and relevant teams including, Corporate Communications, Water Resources, HR and Supply Chain. You will engage with a variety of stakeholders externally across many different organisations, community members, volunteers and experts as well as internally, including the Buxton site’s leadership team, a strong team of employees and category Leadership Teams.
Other key responsibilities:
- Agree priorities and coordinate activities of the site’s Community Relations Programme; responsible for annual planning with a cross functional team, ensuring delivery of the plan and getting hands on with some of the projects and community events. This will include measuring performance, seeking feedback and finding new opportunities to ensure future plans continue to evolve and deliver positive outcomes, relevant for our business and our local community needs.
- Own and develop positive relationships with stakeholders in the local community acting as a first point of contact.
- Help create awareness, build engagement, knowledge and trust in our plans, from how we do business to becoming an employer of choice in the local area.
- Co-Lead the implementation of Buxton site’s Water Stewardship Plan, as well as monitoring progress towards goals and tracking activities for the site’s AWS compliance & certification standard.
- Manage existing land management projects with our external partners to ensure they deliver across a range of environmental and social outcomes, with opportunities to deepen and evolve activities identified and pursued where relevant.
- Provide support and guidance to connect, inspire and educate our people at the Buxton site with our community engagement and sustainability plans in their day-to-day activities (e.g through onsite events, activities, employee volunteering).
- Feed the pipeline of volunteering opportunities for our employees with opportunities arising from the projects and initiatives being delivered or that support needs within the local community. Lead the co-ordination and engagement of this volunteering plan with the support of other internal teams.
- Support on the development of monitoring, reporting and verification (MRV) activities to deliver and demonstrate the impact of our activities in relation to GHGs, biodiversity, water and socioeconomic outcomes.
- Participate in local internal networks for environmental sustainability activities, as well as representing the business in external networks, meetings and conferences.
- Input to key communications assets designed to share our work with others to help encourage more collaboration, to build confidence in our approach and to help build trust in Nestlé.
What will make you successful?
You will have experience in sustainability focused role(s) including land, water and/or biodiversity restoration and be familiar with interacting with a range of stakeholders. You will have a passion for sustainability and drive for creating positive impact, be results focused and enjoy working as part of an exciting and dynamic team. You’ll be willing and eager to engage across a whole range of teams to help create high impact initiatives that deliver for both us and our local communities. You’ll be self-motivated who enjoys a challenge, have a thirst for building relationships and impactful plans, be able to think strategically and innovatively and have a can-do attitude. Some key skills we are looking for include:
