Lecturer in Water Transport and Distribution

The Water Supply, Sanitation and Environmental Engineering Department aims to contribute to the global goal of providing safe drinking water and sanitation to all in an environmentally sustainable manner, including the recycling and reuse of resources.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching and module coordination in the 1- and 2-year MSc programmes in Water & Sustainable Development, as well as joint programmes;
  • Lecturing and coordination tasks in online courses;
  • Development of new educational materials, including online learning products;
  • Mentoring of MSc and PhD students in the field of water transport and distribution;
  • Acquisition and implementation of research and capacity development projects, in cooperation with governmental and non-governmental partners in the Global South;
  • Participation in acquisition and execution of capacity building projects;
  • Participation in short-term missions abroad.

Requirements

  • PhD degree in hydraulics or related field;
  • Proven track record in experimental and numerical research of pressurized flows, including transient flows;
  • Practical experience in setting up laboratory and pilot scale facilities for hydraulic systems;
  • Knowledge of water transport and distribution systems, including hydraulic modelling, design and operation of water distribution systems.
  • Experience in any of these specific subjects is an asset: optimization and AI tools for water networks, water loss management, pressure management, leakage detection, intermittent water supply systems and water-energy nexus;
  • Teaching experience at post-graduate level;
  • Experience mentoring MSc and PhD thesis students;
  • Experience in proposal writing and acquisition of research funds is required;
  • Affinity for capacity building activities in the Global South;
  • Excellent communication and writing/reporting skills;
  • Proficiency in English is a prerequisite; working knowledge of one or more ‘large’ languages is a plus;
  • Ability to work in multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural environments.

Terms of employment

The employment contract is for 30 – 38 hours per week.

Scale 10 Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities (VSNU).

This role requires the candidate to be based in the Netherlands or willing to relocate to the country. The position is in Delft, the Netherlands.
