EnergyAustralia Mount Piper is a large, base-load coal-fired power station just west of the Blue Mountains and Lithgow, NSW, offering an amazing 1-year opportunity as the Graduate Environment Officer. 

About the Role

You will form part of a small, but highly effective on-site Environmental Management team, whose objective is to achieve compliance with Environment Protection Licenses, Water Management Licenses – and other related statutory requirements.

In your role of Environmental Graduate, you’ll assist in collecting environmental monitoring data, reporting & analysing through the interpretation of this environmental data.

You’ll work within the Environmental Management System to ensure it is relevant and reflects current standards and compliance – as well as providing technical information and advice, ensuring continual sharing, and improvement of environment knowledge on-site. 

With the provided mentoring from the Team Leader, and assistance of team members, you will be actively involved in on-site environmental issues and events to ensure that the risk of environmental non-compliance is eliminated or handled appropriately.

Your role will include:

  • Managing water resources in the upper Coxs River Catchment.
  • Assist with data collection, monitoring and reporting to achieve compliance with relevant statutory requirements.
  • Assist with the facilitation; review and reporting of environmental audit programs.
  • Participate in the management of designated elements of the Environment Management System (EMS) to ensure that Mt Piper maintains ISO14001 certification.
  • Assist with the review of Mt Piper’s environmental risk register and environmental management plans
  • Contribute to immediate and effective responses to all environmental incidents or events to ensure that environmental non-conformances are eliminated or minimised.

About You
To be successful in the role you will have the following qualifications, skills and experience:

  • Degree level qualifications in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering or Resource Management
  • Experience in data collection including data management systems to accurately record and present data in appropriate formats and to approved standards.
  • Document and Environment Management Systems capability and understanding
  • Ability to identify environmental problems and develop technically appropriate solutions through demonstrated incident investigation techniques. At the Upper Level, the demonstrated capacity to deliver solutions/outcomes in response to environmental problems
  • Demonstrated sound organisational skills in document control, record management and business system applications such as business planning, budgeting and financial/contract evaluation processes.
