The position is to be based in the home country (local contract) of the successful candidate, where World Vision International is registered.
The Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Senior Advisor for External Engagement represents and builds World Vision (WV)’s influence, advocacy, partnerships and reputation externally. Ensures WV is represented by subject matter experts in key forums and participates in selected networks, associations, and boards as appropriate. Actively positions WV as a NGO of choice with the global 2030 Agenda platform,
potential and key partners, businesses, donors and other stakeholders. Oversees and coordinates closely with Support Offices’ WASH sector team engagement and partners and other Global Centre teams. Works with and supports World Vision’s global ministries.
The External Engagement Sr. Advisor will provide coordination and functional support for the WASH team external engagement strategy and implementation, inclusive of annual strategy development, management, monitoring and reporting. The External Engagement Sr. Advisor will develop content in support of engagements, as well as manage partner engagements themselves. The External Engagement Sr. Advisor will support multiple external event engagements annually, monitor engagement opportunities and lead development of appropriate communications content.
Set and Monitor Strategic External Engagement Priorities
- Develops and successfully achieves external engagement strategy for the sector
- Develop and manage External Engagement monitoring database, and develop clear measurement framework for External Engagement activities.
- Lead WASH Team in review of annual External Engagement priorities
- Maintain oversight of (and coordinate where needed) WV’s sectoral external engagement activities.
- Strengthen and expand strategic partnerships (with particular focus on the Sustainable Development Goals at the global level including multi-stakeholder partnerships, United Nations partnerships, and multinational corporate and faith actors.
- Contribute to positioning WV to attain technical and strategic recognition and thought leadership position within the global sector
- Identify shared objectives and initiatives with global initiatives.
- Develop alignment with A&EE (including on global policy positions)
- Provide management support and advice for global policy agenda/campaign as per the Partnership strategy.
- Identify key external influencers and networks to promote and inform future programme direction.
Build Capacities
- With A&EE, provide authoritative technical and policy advice to World Vision’s WASH sector community of practice in order to enrich our understanding and engagement in the sector.
- Identify and build capacity of subject matter experts to represent sector externally.
- Ensure external representations by subject matter experts reflect WV’s integrated understanding of development and child well-being
Provide Global Stewardship
- Support the global resource development strategy providing expertise, and actively positioning WV as a NGO of choice with key donors and stakeholders.
- Bring to bear evidence of World Vision’s contribution to Child Well-Being (CWB) in specific the WASH sector in external relations for advocacy, donor relations.
- Support development of Support Office engagement with WV WASH.
Ensure Accountability
- Ensure appropriate use of evidence of results from WV’s work with relevant external stakeholders
- Manage partner reporting requirements (e.g., with WHO) where WV WASH has stated commitments
- Lead key message development as needed for representation and engagement; lead social media content development; expand social media presence.
Promote World Vision
- Serve as relationship manager and cultivate specific partnerships with multi-lateral agencies and works closely with WV A&EE (especially global capitals) team to realize WV’s sector strategy.
- Provide management support and advice for global policy agenda / advocacy campaign as per the Partnership strategy.
- Oversees and coordinates closely with Support Office WASH sector specialists and policy/advocacy teams
Required Knowledge Skills & Abilities:
- 10 years experience in a position supporting international external engagement functions and/or advocacy
- Masters degree in a WASH field, global health (or similar public health field) and/or public policy
- Experience in External Engagement
- Willingness and ability to work from remotely/from home.
- Willingness and ability to travel both domestically and internationally up to 15%
- Fluency in English (written and verbal); additional languages – especially French and Spanish preferable
Preferred Knowledge Skills & Abilities:
- Familiarity with major global and national WASH organizations
- Established global WASH network
- Event coordination experience
- Strong Communication and negotiation skills
- Global-level advocacy skills
- Experience with online meeting technologies
If this position is filled in the United States, the typical salary range for this role is $98,645 to $115,000 USD. Ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job type, job level, internal equity, and budget. Exact salary offers will be determined by factors such as the candidate’s skills, qualifications, experience, and geographic location.
