The Water Supply, Sanitation and Environmental Engineering Department aims to contribute to the global goal of providing safe drinking water and sanitation to all in an environmentally sustainable manner, including the recycling and reuse of resources.
Responsibilities
- Teaching and module coordination in the 1 and 2 year MSc programmes in Water & Sustainable Development
- Supervision of MSc and PhD candidates in the areas of Sewage and Sludge Treatment and Reuse
- Acquisition and implementation of research and capacity development projects, in cooperation with governmental and non-governmental partners in the Global South
Requirements
- PhD in Sanitary Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering or related field, on a topic related to wastewater treatment and/or resource recovery
- Minimum three years’ experience working on physical, chemical and biological aspects of sewage and sludge treatment and reuse
- Affinity to laboratory and experimental work and interest in applied research into innovative technologies for sludge treatment and reuse.
- Experience in projects in the Global South in line with IHE’s Vision and Mission
- Teaching experience at post-graduate level and experience in mentoring MSc students
- Ability to work in multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural environments
- A combined experience of academic nature (research and education) and professional nature (design and engineering) is a pre
- Experience in proposal writing and acquisition of research funds is preferred
- Proficiency in English is a prerequisite; working knowledge of one or more ‘large’ languages is a plus
- Candidates with experience in development and/or application of mathematical models to sludge treatment and (agricultural) reuse are encouraged to apply. Knowledge of (co)treatment with faecal/septic sludge is a plus.
Terms of employment
The employment contract is for 38 hours per week.
The position is in accordance with Scale 10 of the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities.
This role requires the candidate to be based in the Netherlands or willing to relocate to the country. The position is in Delft, the Netherlands.
