Summer Position:
Full Time – 40 hours per week
Monday – Friday 8:00 am – 5:00 pm (Hybrid)

The Water Rights, Supply and Analytics group is composed of three collaborative sections: Water Rights, Raw Water, and Water Resource Analysis. Water Rights is responsible for defending Denver Water’s interests in water court and acquiring new water rights as needed; Raw Water manages operations for conveying Denver Water’s raw water and reusable water supplies to storage and its water treatment plants; and Water Resource Analysis maintains, develops, and conducts studies using Denver Water’s long-range planning model, which includes reservoirs, diversions, rivers, and other operations in both the Colorado and South Platte River Basins As one collaborative group, the Water Rights, Supply, and Analytics group ensures Denver Water’s raw water supply is reliable and resilient for customers today, and into the future.
Internship Project Description:
This intern will join the Water Rights team in the Water Resource Strategy division and will:
- Support the Water Rights team, Raw Water Supply team, and Analytics team
- Research, analyze and summarize hydrological, climate and other data in support of water rights investigations, Water Court cases, and water modeling
- Review and summarize contracts and agreements in support of improved operations and modeling efforts
- Research approaches for determining system yield, reliability, and resiliency
- Assist staff with field work and other site investigations
- Coordinate customer and outreach responses to implementation of drought restrictions in the Denver Water service area.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities to perform this intern project:
- Analytical thinking
- Data analysis and interpretation
- Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and Access
- Verbal and written communication
- Technical writing and technical document synthesis
- Quality control and quality assurance
- Willingness to research topics and differentiate between credible and non-credible sources.
- Balance and prioritize tasks for multiple projects.

Hiring Criteria:
The position may be a paid position and/or for school credit. However, the candidate must currently be a student attending college/university or must have graduated in the last six (6) months.
Education Requirements:
- Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, Senior, or Graduate level student majoring in Natural Sciences, Engineering, or a related field.
Experience Requirements:
- Preferred knowledge of Microsoft Office products, GIS applications, and data analysis software
License Requirements:
- None

During the Summer Intern Program, there are THREE (3) REQUIRED ATTENDANCE EVENTS. All interns must participate.
Intern positions do not come with any benefits other than holiday pay (if the employee worked for more than 20 days before the holiday) and Accrued Paid Sick Leave. Interns and Denver Water Temps accrue one hour of Accrued Paid Sick Leave per 30 hours worked, up to 48 hours per year per the Colorado Healthy Families and Workplaces Act.
