Job Description: Full Time – 40 hours per week

Monday – Friday [7:00 AM – 3:30 PM] (Field Position)

Internship Project Description:

This intern will join the Laboratory division and will:

  • Perform field data collections within Denver Water’s watershed to assess effects to storage reservoirs impacted by wildfire and other extreme events.
  • Perform a literature review of other utility limnology programs and create a limnology program recommendation to Denver Water.
  • Perform basic laboratory analyses to understand water quality dynamics.
  • Assess data, create technical documents, and develop data visualizations to determine implications.
  • Assist in the creation of a utility decision support system.
  • Determine methods for long-term monitoring data management.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities to perform this intern project:

  • Effective critical thinking and problem-solving skills with attention to detail and data accuracy
  • Ability to operate equipment such as boats, vehicles, and trailers.
  • Strong written and oral communication
  • Basic understanding of water quality, limnology, and watershed science
  • Ability to plan methodically, analyze information, and draw conclusions.

Additional Locations: Water Quality Lab-1230

Position Requirements

Hiring Criteria:

The position may be a paid position and/or for school credit. However, the candidate must currently be a student attending college/university or must have graduated in the last six (6) months.

Education Requirements:

  • Senior or Graduate level student majoring in Environmental Science, Watershed Science, Limnology, Biology, Ecology, or a related field.

Experience Requirements

  • Proficient in software including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Experience with data assessment, research, and literature review
  • Experience with environmental field work or basic laboratory analysis
  • Report or data visualization development

License Requirements:

  • Current Colorado Driver’s license “R”, with a satisfactory driving record required.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

  • A background check including, education, work experience, and criminal history.
  • If driving is required, we’ll also request:
    • A motor vehicle background check.
    • A pre-placement clinic appointment which may include a physical, drug and alcohol test, strength test, and worker’s compensation background test.

About Denver Water

During the Summer Intern Program, there are THREE (3) REQUIRED ATTENDANCE EVENTS. All interns must participate.

Intern positions do not come with any benefits other than holiday pay (if the employee worked for more than 20 days before the holiday) and Accrued Paid Sick Leave. Interns and Denver Water Temps accrue one hour of Accrued Paid Sick Leave per 30 hours worked, up to 48 hours per year per the Colorado Healthy Families and Workplaces Act.
