Educational Level: WO / Master
Deadline: 04/03/2024, 00:59
Location: Delft
Category: Young Professionals
Do you have a university degree (MSc/PhD) and a strong interest in coastal and estuarine hydrodynamic processes, numerical modelling and data analytics? Do you want to work on challenging research and consultancy projects related to environmental hydrodynamics? Then this job may be for you!
What you can expect as Junior advisor/researcher hydrodynamics
You will join a great group of 25 professionals in the department Hydrodynamics and Forecasting. We undertake a wide range of applied research and specialist consultancy projects in the Netherlands and abroad. These are related to (operational) modelling of hydrodynamics in coastal oceans, shelf seas and estuarine environments. This includes for example, modelling of tides, storm surges, sea level rise and flooding, as well as research on processes and prevention of salinity intrusion into estuaries.
Great examples of projects in which our department is involved are the development and application of the Dutch Continental Shelf Model,the Global Tide and Surge Model and 2D and 3D models of the Rhine Meuse Delta. This could be something you can work on!
Your main activities are to:
- Develop, validate and apply numerical models such as Delft3D FM to calculate hydrodynamics of marine and coastal waters;
- Undertake research and specialist consultancy tasks as a member of a team including analysis and interpretation of modelling outcomes, comparisons with measurements, etc.;
- Data processing, visualisation and interpretation, including the use of scripting languages such as Python;
- With your new energy and curious mindset, you will work with cloud computing, high-performance computing, containerisation, machine learning, etc. There is plenty of room to learn these new technologies on the job.
- Help with writing reports, acquiring projects (e.g. writing proposals), visiting clients, managing projects and presenting results. You help provide trustworthy information and insights to stakeholders such as Rijkswaterstaat
- By learning on the job you will notice that your network will increase. You use this network to cooperate with other groups outside and within Deltares.
Our projects integrate deep knowledge of physical processes with outstanding modelling expertise to provide reliable information and insights to stakeholders. Key is the understanding of hydrodynamic processes in the coastal ocean and shelf seas and estuarine systems and the ability to connect this with other disciplines such as water quality, morphology and operational forecasting. This is the strength of our department. Do you want to join our team of experts?
